Don't get the fuss. Just a decent performance in a terribly grating and flat film.

I like this. The film has grown on me in retrospect. He was the right choice for the character.

This is Robert De Niro's best performance by a very wide margin

Stanton, O'Toole and Hurt are immensely deserving and would make my Top 30.
The love for Spacey and De Niro, on the other hand, irritates the piss out of me.

Pretty decent list so far. Still need to see Stanton and O'Toole. Hurt is good, wouldn't place for me but I'm not upset. Spacey seems to have lost the love we had for him the last few times we've done this poll, but still think he deserves a spot here even if he didn't make my list.
De Niro, though, was #2 on my ballot so I'm very happy. I'm really not that big on De Niro, but this performance turned me around. So many incredible and disturbing layers and that climatic stand-up sequence is some of the most haunting and depressing stuff I've seen despite its play for laughs.

Surprised Affleck is so low. I have a sinking feeling he'll be placing here twice, though, with Manchester by the Sea. Crazy if that one gets in higher than this, though (even if I would agree).
