Fiennes not winning makes up for the shameful lack of Ustinov on this list. Fiennes is great, but he isn't even the best supporting actor in his own film (Kingsley for life!).

I don't think Duvall is making it, I don't think he's ever made this list before (maybe a few times ago).
I'm predicting Walken, Ledger, Waltz, Simmons, & Hopper.

Guess I was the only #1 for Fiennes, this time. Oh well! Still as good of a performance as has ever been given imo.

stephenI agree with you. Fiennes is good, but his being #1 two times in a row was a bit much. Walken's my #1 and if both he and Leachman (my #1 in Supp. Actress) are the wins, I'll feel so blessed (even though I know neither of my Actor or Actress winners will make the list).

We'll see who's right. I can see Hopper making it but then I think he was better in Speed and Apocalypse Now than BV. I agree. I think Hopper was good in Blue Velvet, but I absolutely agree. I just think there is A LOT of love for Lynch right now which will translate into love for Hopper.

I'm guessing Ustinov (for Spartacus, right?) is one of them. The other 3?

I mean, I think much of the love for him came AFTER the film's release, when the Lynch acclaim GREW. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I thought he was fairly one-note in the movie. And Rossellini making the top 30 in SActress had me scratching my head. Wtf's brilliant about her? Diane Ladd was 5 times better, and she didn't make it. Looks like you're right about Duvall. But why Duvall doesn't make it? Isn't he universally acclaimed?

I think he might have made the list a few years back (like 2008 or something), but I think people don't look at Apocalypse Now as an actor's movie anymore. I'm hoping I'm wrong because I'd love Sheen to make the Actor list, but I think if anything people are pretty split between Duvall, Brando, and Hopper for best of the supporting cast. Agreed on the Blue Velvet actors, though. They were good, but best ever is a stretch for me. I've yet to see Wild at Heart, though. I'd prefer if Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me made the list instead (for Sheryl Lee or Ray Wise).

Pete Postlethwaite, In the Name of the Father (1993) I've actually only seen Hopper and Postlethwaite, so I'll definitely be making the others a priority when I get to those years (though I've wanted to see them all anyway for other reasons).

It really is. Anyone in my Top 30 or so that year would be a worthy nominee. And I champion the hell out of the actual winner that year.

And Walken is awesome in Deer Hunter. Don't think I'd call it top 3 though.

I think him being #1 would have been better and made more sense than the other potential three it could be (Waltz, Bardem, Simmons). But hey, if George C. Scott surprises us all and becomes #1 I will cry tears of joy.

Walken is mesmerizing, but it always deflates me when no one gives props to John Savage for the same film.
