Regarding Bullock, there are certainly worst winners than her, and I do not usually (strongly) disagree with the winners of this category. Maybe I'm imposing the film's poor quality on Bullock´s performance - It´s a movie that I need to rewatch just for her work, thanks for the indirect recommendation

Personally, I don't think that many Oscar winning performances are lousy, and I loved most of the ones listed as worst so far. But push comes to shove so here goes best and worst.
Best Paul Scofield/A Man for All Seasons (1966)
Vivien Leigh/Gone with the Wind (1939)
Timothy Hutton/Ordinary People (1980)
Linda Hunt/The Year of Living Dangerously (1983)
Worst Actor: Matthew McConaughey/Dallas Buyers Club (2013; Flat. Complain all you will about American Hustle, but that woefully underappreciated film had more life in its smallest detail than Dallas Buyers Club.)
Actress:Glenda Jackson/A Touch of Class (1973; the saving grace of her film, but in this, in my favorite acting category, the otherwise limp film drags her down)
Supporting Actor: tossup beyween George Chakeris/West Side Story (1961;had extremely little to work with.) And Jared Leto/Dallas Buyers Club (2013;Instantly Forgettable)
Supporting Actress: It pains me greatly to say it, since I generally love her, but Gloria Grahame/The Bd and the Beautiful (1952; small part, not enough impact)

Maybe I'm imposing the film's poor quality on Bullock´s performance - It´s a movie that I need to rewatch just for her work, thanks for the indirect recommendation The film is pretty awful, but Bullock actually takes a part that would come off as a dimensionless stereotype and actually imbues her with humanity. It's a surprisingly textured performance that manages to keep from being hamstrung by godawful writing and less-than-impressive costars. I wouldn't give her a win for anything for it, but she's better than the other nominees that year save for Sidibe, and I'd easily take her over the performances that won Best Actress directly before and after her.

keep in mind, there's A LOT I haven't seen...
BEST Lead Actress: Vivien Leigh, Gone with the Wind Lead Actor: Marlon Brando, On the Waterfront Supporting Actress: Cloris Leachman, The Last Picture Show (H/M: Linda Hunt, The Year of Living Dangerously) Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
WORST Lead Actress: Jane Fonda, Coming Home (nothing terrible about the performance, it's just very forgettable and it beat much better contenders) Lead Actor: Jack Nicholson, As Good as It Gets (by 1997, it was about damn time for the Academy to stop honoring Jack Nicholson for being Jack Nicholson) Supporting Actress: Ingrid Bergman, Murder on the Orient Express (not bad, just very very forgettable to the point of confounding) Supporting Actor: Jack Nicholson, Terms of Endearment (H/M: Mark Rylance)

Actor
Best- Daniel Day Lewis- There Will Be Blood
Worst- John Wayne in True Grit or Sean Penn in Mystic River
Actress
Best- Vivien Leigh- Gone With the Wind
Worst- Greer Garson in Mrs. Miniver or Emma Stone in La La Land
Supporting Actor
Best- Heath Ledger- The Dark Knight
Worst- Maybe George Kennedy in Cool Hand Luke? All the winners I've seen for this one are at least solid so it was hard to pick
Supporting Actress-
Best- Can't decide between Eva Marie Saint in On the Waterfront or Juliette Binoche in The English Patient
Worst Bergman in Orient Express. Not bad but just really strange since she's barely in the movie. You sort of wonder if some of the voters hadn't seen it and just voted for her by default.

FUCK YOURSELF! I like Jack, but those two performances are obnoxious as hell, especially TOE.

You sort of wonder if some of the voters hadn't seen it and just voted for her by default. I felt exactly the same. Her win is really bizarre because she only has like two scenes, and neither of them are particularly memorable. In a very full ensemble cast, she kind of disappears into the crowd. Lauren Bacall would have made much more sense.

I knew going in she was only in it for one scene, and was expecting it to be an absolute powerhouse to get her that oscar, but it was totally underwhelming. I actually can't even remember her scene much at all.

I have a soft spot for Wayne, but even I think they shoulda given it to him in '56.

My biggest issue with Wayne's win is that it feels more like a veteran's win than most. It's a performance fully within his wheelhouse, and he's not bad in the part (although Bridges schools his performance something fierce in the 2010 version), but I much prefer Wayne in his "deconstructionist" Westerns ( The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Shootist).

Wayne was also my toughest choice to pick for "worst". He's pretty good in True Grit. But from all the leading actor wins I had seen I felt his performance was probably the weakest. Love your picks for Peck and Ngor by the way. Though I disagree on Dennis being bad.
