Watched all five episodes of Russell T. Davies' It's a Sin last night with my family, and feel like I've spent all of today processing it. It was a difficult and emotional watch for me, but also incredibly rewarding. In capturing both the ecstatic highs and horrifying lows of life as a gay man in 80s London, Davies has presented what is easily the most impactful depiction of the AIDS crisis I've ever seen, even better than the masterful Angels in America miniseries I think. Everything about it was imbued with such compassion and humanity, devastating without begging for your tears, hilarious while just being honest. Watched as an entire, 4ish hour experience, it feels like one of the greatest things I've seen in a long, long time.
I'm also so fortunate to have been able to watch something like this with my family - even if some of it was pretty excruciating to sit through with them lol - as a gay guy who has been lucky enough to be accepted by everyone in my family. It's a Sin, among many other things, highlights the devastating consequences of intolerance, either explicit or implicit enough to keep someone trapped in a life of shame and denial. Wow.

It's great that you have a loving and supportive family and that you were able to watch this together with them. To be honest I'm jealous.
