And who was the MVP overall?
I absolutely loved Shaun of the Dead. Ridiculously funny and also pretty endearing towards the end. Zombieland was also superb but I slightly prefer Shaun here.
MVP : Nick Frost😇

I think Zombieland is the better overall film, but Shaun of the Dead has the best performances between the two with Nick Frost and Penelope Wilton.

Shaun of the Dead, but it's fairly close. I enjoy both but neither would be among my favorite comedies or anything.
Overall MVP is definitely Nick Frost. Woody isn't far behind.

Both are really good, fun movies, but I give the edge to Shaun of the Dead. I think it's funnier and slightly smarter in its parodying of the zombie genre.
MVP is tough, but I'd have to say Pegg. Seriously though, Frost and Woody and right behind him.

Easily Shaun of the Dead and MVP is Frost.

They're entirely different. Shaun is a zombie comedy, and it is specifically playing with zombie tropes and has a GRAND time doing it.
Z-land is more of a post-apocalyptic comedy. Zombie movies are usually post-apocalyptic, yes, but Z-land focuses its comedy on character moments; Tallahassee and Little Rock interrupting Columbus and Wichita's romantic moment for help building a "fort" (made of pillows and blankets, because what else would those two build a fort with?), the characters debating the use of seatbelts, Tallahassee getting perfumed. These are moments that would fit into any post-apocalyptic setting, but the difference is in the way the characters act. They're real people making fun and trying to enjoy themselves after their world has been destroyed, both in the literal sense and the figurative one (as symbolized by all four of the adventurers on a search for something that no longer exists).
Nowhere is this more clear than the "quiet game" scene.
It's a scene that doesn't fit into a straight up "zombie" parody, but it fits into the post-apocalyptic setting perfectly. Ordinary people that have lost what once made them whole is the hallmark of that genre, be it Mad Max or The Road. And in Zombieland, they use humor to hide that, to cover it up... and in time, to heal the old wounds, and begin anew.
It's kinda obvious which of these I'm siding with, huh? I think Shaun of the Dead is a truly great comedy, but Zombieland is a truly great story of any kind.

Shaun of the Dead is in my top 50 films ever, and Zombieland doesn't even make my top 10 for 2009, so it's pretty clear which one I prefer here. But that's not to say I still don't enjoy Zombieland. When it came out, I probably saw it three or four times in theaters and many times after that at home with friends. It's such a good time at the movies, but I think Shaun of the Dead is far more expert in its storytelling, has stronger performances, and is made for movie nerds like me.
Also Simon Pegg is totally MVP for me in Shaun of the Dead, but glad to see so much love for Nick Frost as well.

I think Shaun of the Dead is at least a grade higher. I like Zombieland a lot, and I enjoy watching the Zombieland gang and their banter, but the sequel never came through, it lost a bit of charm on rewatch; and Shaun of the Dead's originality and approach sets it apart.
That takes very little away from Zombieland, I just think when it's all said and done, SOTD is a bit better. Besides, some of the backyard scenes of SOTD reminded me of The Walking Dead (the game). Don't think Zombieland was able to channel GOAT-tier artwork like that.
SOTD - 8.5 Zombieland - 8 (some days 7.5)

As fun as Zombieland is, I thought there was no way in hell anyone would pick it over Shaun. This thread sure proved me wrong

Shaun and it's not close at all. Frost for MVP. Do you like Spaced, Drish?

This debate yet again. I'll go with Zombieland.

There is no "I" in team, but there is an "I" in pie. And there's an "I" in meat pie. Anagram of meat is team... I don't know what he's talking about.

I liked Shaun of the Dead a lot.
Zombieland was...OK, I guess. Pretty standard, forgettable stuff.

Thoughts on it? It's my favorite show, so... Such a fun ensemble with lots of laughs and pop culture references. Very memorable characters and you get to see them all baby faced and young. Hope you enjoy!
