...on August 11 or 18 if 'Dunkirk' stays in IMAX only for 3 or 4 weeks?
Okay, remember this thread?:
movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/thread/3072/dunkirk-imax-6-weeks
Yeah, I think there's a possibility that 'Dunkirk' might stay in IMAX only for 3 or 4 weeks before another film takes over on August 11 or 18 - largely due to its "unappealing" subject matter.
The problem is, August 11 or 18 has no major release that would go well with IMAX release (IMAX hasn't approved an IMAX release for a film that doesn't fit whatsoever even since 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and 'Focus' fiasco), so if another film DOES get an IMAX release on one of those days, one of these films is likely to get a late IMAX release: -War for the Planet of the Apes -Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets -The Dark Tower
All of these films have at least one aspect that can guarantee a late IMAX release and at least one aspect that might prevent it:
War for the Planet of the Apes For: Currently getting a huge critical acclaim and is very likely to be a box office smash hit. Against: Fox is one of the laziest major film studios when it comes to IMAX release, especially if it's an IMAX 3D release - and this film is already getting a 3D release.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets For: Luc Besson has reportedly struck an IMAX release deal even before 'Dunkirk' got announced, giving this film some chance to get an IMAX release in some form. Against: Its critical reception could go either way (although decent reviews for 'Lucy' showed that Besson still can direct and early reactions seem to indicate that the film is better than many of us have anticipated).
The Dark Tower For: Idris Elba in a Stephen King adaptation could be something that might help its IMAX release. Against: Potentially troubled production history might result in its critical failure and its August 4 release date is too close to August 11 or August 18 to get a late IMAX release.
That's all I have. What are your thoughts on this and why?
And while we're at it, should it actually happen, which film do you think is most likely going to get a late IMAX release on August 11 or 18 and why? In which order?

I'd say The Dark Tower, only because it seems like the kind of out of left field choice for IMAX, although like anything, I'm not 100% certain of that, so don't quote me on it.

Well, I personally think that 'The Dark Tower' is the least likely candidate for an IMAX release. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, the film isn't even getting a 3D release either!

True, I really don't see any of the three mentioned films getting IMAX releases, just because of how they're getting released, but will see.

So... which film do you think will get an IMAX release instead in the event of 'Dunkirk' staying only for 3 or 4 weeks?

War For The Planet of The Apes, if it gets a release and is successful enough, I suppose.
