Now I'm looking forward to it.

I'm fine with this. Silvestri is an underrated composer, and I've not been too enthused with Williams's scores of late.

HO LEE FUK.
All right, my shock is not as insanely strong as it was with the Thomas Newman "Bridge of Spies" news back in the day, but I'm very shocked anyway. I was indeed looking forward to how Williams would've approached the futuristic sci-fi elements here, but Silvestri is also a pretty cool choice. Especially since they've obviously collaborated before on "Back to the Future" and stuff. I hope Silvestri brings his total A-game here because lately I haven't been too impressed with his scores (although maybe he just hasn't been given the proper projects to fully shine). I hope we hear theme-oriented Silvestri again. The one that did so incredibly well with the abovementioned "BTTF". Fascinating news. Damn.

Love Silvestri (and with no Goldsmith or Horner he's probably the next best choice for this 80s lovefest, especially with the DeLorean making an appearance) but I don't think he's been as good lately as Williams. Still excited to see what a collaboration with Spielberg brings, and nice that he'll get his hands on some reliable visually driven action filmmaking again. I expect it'll be better than his MCU/Night at the Museum stuff.
In general it's just kinda sad to see some holes poking in the airtight Spielberg/Williams partnership, what with Williams's Star Wars duties and his inability to keep pace with Spielberg as before. Still as big sci-fi action/adventure projects go, a collaboration with Rian Johnson probably has more potential for novelty (albeit in well-worn territory) than another throwback with Spielberg, anyway.

My main concern is Williams's health. I'm sure that he and Spielberg are still great friends and great collaborators who get along as wonderfully as before (the statement even says that they picked Silvestri together) but I hope Williams is doing fine in terms of his well-being. It's probably better for him not to overwork with two projects at the same time. And even though the Spielberg-Williams team is my favorite duo in cinema, I'm still rather interested to find out how the Beard's movies will sound with a different composer. I just hope Silvestri can awaken the spirit that he had before the 2010s.

He seems like he's well. He's traveled to Boston and Orlando just in the last few months to conduct and still has more concerts planned through next year. I'm always gonna be a little concerned about these things as a fan of an 85 year old...but conducting can be so physically strenuous that the fact he's still keeping up with it and traveling around the US I would think means he's probably doing alright.

Although his scores didnĀ“t impress me that much lately (same as John Williams), at least there will be something new with this composer. As much as I love the legendary duo Spielberg/Williams, I am so looking forward to see this.

Most of Silvestri's score since the 2010's have had themes, so it's not like he needs to awaken anything so to say. Hollywood in general hasn't been asking for big themes for a while, though.
Anyway about the news...
Wow! Silvestri is a worthy replacement actually, and makes sense. He's not doing much these days anyway, so I'm sure someone recommended him or something. Plus since it's an 1980's throwback, so I'm sure the score will follow suit, and be very orchestral and full of themes. I'm actually looking forward to this score, maybe he'll get the synclavier out of retirement too. He's always been good with electronics after all.
