Three things:
1) this movie is just way too fun. 2) watching the Special Edition for the first time ever, and the scenes that were cut were cut for good reason (holy hell Miguel, you're bad and you should feel bad!) 3) Judd Hirsch is fucking hysterical, "John Lennon, smart man... shot in the back, very sad".

It's a helluva fun movie. Surprisingly moving as well in certain spots. I guess the overall emotional (be it moving or exciting) power of it is due to its utter earnestness. And it's kinda awesome.

This was one of my favourite films as a kid and when I watched it again a year ago, I still enjoyed it immensely. Tbh I almost shed a tear when Randy Quaid sacrifices his life to blow up the spacecraft. Not to mention that SFX are some of the best I've ever seen. This is the Emmerich we want back.

Wonderful film, and it holds up so well. Judd Hirsch is for sure the unsung hero of the whole thing.

Yeah, shame that the sequel sucked.

I love the dialogue seriously quotable. Is it wrong that I watch this clip on YouTube regularly when I have to go out into the real world that way I can pretend I'm going out for noble reasons?

It's a dumb film, but I do some enjoyment out of it. One of Emmerich's better films, that sequel from last year was just trash. Goes to show that practical effects are usually always better then CGI.
