Found this on the BFI site and thought it a good topic: www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/lists/10-great-summertime-filmsFor the lazy ones: -Partie de campagne (1936) -Summer with Monika (1953) -Rear Window (1954) -The End of Summer (1961) -Jaws (1975) -The Green Ray (1986) -Do the Right Thing (1989) -Dazed and Confused (1993) -My Summer of Love (2004) -Our Beloved Month of August (2008) I like their selection a lot because it has so many different facettes of summer (Rear Window for instance wouldn't pop to your mind first but it's a great depiction of summer idleness). I've not seen The End of Summer and the newest 2 though. I might add mine later (A Summer's Tale would certainly be included). Which ones would you add?

Basically a bunch of Spielberg or Nolan films. When it comes to summer blockbusters, those guys don't fuck around. It seems like its almost like Spielberg is passing the torch to Nolan as being the next big thing (making blockbusters that aren't totally mindless)

The Last Day of Summer (1958) La La Land West Side Story The Bling Ring American Graffiti La Joli Mai Breathless/Contempt Blow-Up
select other French New Wave stuff. these are movies that capture summer spirit, not necessarily set in summer.

Cool thread idea, nice selection, some personal picks that came to mind (don't ask me why):
La Collectionneuse (anything by Rohmer set during the summer, but this one in particular is pure summery gorgeousness) Aguirre, the Wrath of God Death in Venice A Nos Amours Fat Girl La Strada Pierrot Le Fou and Le Mepris The Searchers The Bridge on the River Kwai Lawrence of Arabia
