I'm interested in what everybody thinks. I've never been too big of a fan but I rarely passed on the chance to watch some of his films (those thatare considered to be good at least). And mostly they're actually doing quite well because of excellent cinematography & a firm grasp on conflict. The Man who shot Liberty Valance & My Darling Clementine really are excellent films. I feel the others are somewhat hampered by their very conservative narration though (Ford could have upped his game by taking a look at Fuller, Ray and other B-movie directors imo). The reason I think Valance and Clementine stand out are because Valance is a deconstruction of the mythos Ford built in his previous films and My Darling Clementine hyperbolizes the mythological narrative into being fully predetermined (it almost feels like the characters are struggling with their faith).
1. The Man who shot Liberty Valance - 9/10 2. My Darling Clementine - 9/10 3. The Grapes of Wrath - 8,5/10 4. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon - 8/10 5. Fort Apache - 8/10 6. How Green Was My Valley - 8/10 7. The Searchers - 8/10 8. The Quiet Man - 7,5/10 9. Wagon Master - 7/10 10. Stagecoach - 7/10
Note: Fort Apache vs. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon is hard. I litteraly gave Ribbon the notch for the color (even though the cinematography in Apache is also great).
As of now I'm most excited for 7 Women. I feel like it could be his best.

Until Sergio Leone stomped onto the scene, there wasn't a man alive who could shoot sunbaked vistas with such sweeping panache as Admiral Ford. I also love that, as you say, he lived long enough to deconstruct the very genre he made a staple. I don't know if I could rank his work, but I do adore most of what he did.
