Maybe modern classics? There are still a good number of movies from the 90s I call straight-out classics tho (Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park, Silence of the Lambs).

I was talking to someone recently about a song, and when it came out. She said it "Oh, it was a long time ago", I said "No it wasn't! It was 2004!" She said "THAT IS A LONG TIME AGO!" When there are walking talking people that consider 2004 a long time ago I think it's fair to say the 90s are ancient history.

Oh honey, doesn't a classic have to be like over 50 years old or something like that...
I wasn't even born in 2004!

Gosh, she mustn't think Shreck is as old as Colosseum? 2004 is like yesterday for me,,, Oh honey, that's because you're stuck in the past. It's about time you let me take you shopping... OK but seriously, if we're going to do 90s movies we should start with Ashley Judd...

I just can't call them classics yet. It's too hard. I was born in the 90s, and to call them classics already would make me feel really old.

To me, classic is pre-1970.

I'm often guilty of excitably throwing around the "instant classic" card after I've seen a film or listened to a track I think is really special. Usually time proves such statements to be hyperbolic and silly, but I'd still feel comfortable calling Mulholland Dr. and Zodiac classics and they're 00's. So a 90's movie can obviously be a classic by my personal definition.

As ridiculous as it sounds, yes, we should be consider the 90s classic times now, even in record stores, there's now a special place for 90s music. And I've heard a lñot of people adressing some 90s movies as classics.
And the 2000s are gonna be there too very soon, let's not forget how The Big Short treated the aughts as a f_cking period piece
