Some smaller offbeat ones in terms of a dark sensibility also like:
David Mamet's Homicide (1991) Bad Lieutenant Keane (or Clean, Shaven too)
Another interesting thing to look at for me is movies from the 80s that seemed to prolong the 70s. For example movies like Prince of The City, The Verdict, Blow Out, Scarface, King of Comedy are all early 80s films that were made too late to fully capture the mood of the moment - they were evoking the disillusionment that audiences didn't really want any longer - and because of that the audiences really missed out on all of those at the time (except The Verdict which did well).
When I think of movies that were more typical of the early 80s, well they sure didn't look like those ones that for sure.

Boogie Nights (obviously) and Magnolia feel like prime '70s.

Almost Famous, which works miles to it's advantage.
