The idea of this poll is to take the BP winner of each year and reimagine them with the best director nominees of that year, and ask which director would make the best version of that film. If the BP winner was nominated in directing, that option will not be listed.

Nichols won the tiebreaker easily, and Boorman walked all over the competition for The Last Emperor

Though to be fair, Woody Allen's Platoon would be absolutely fascinating, and Roland Joffe's cinematography and score for his version would be sensational.

I am actually considering Allen as my vote. I don't like Platoon or war movies in general, and if Allen made a serio-comic hangout movie with a "war is hell" setting - sort of his version of MASH, but with more direct danger - I think it could be brilliant.

Thought about voting for Woody just to meme but yes it has to be Lynch. Whatever surrealist modern horror version he would have cooked up would have probably been even better than the normal one. A lot more stuff like Barnes's eyes going red in that one shot which is one of the great moments in the movie.

Although Stett saying Allen doing a Vietnam war movie would end up a lot like MASH makes sense.

Well Stone ripped off Lynch by using Adagio for Strings. So just seems fitting. Lynch could either make a powerful earnest film like when he used that piece, or a tripped out nightmare. Either way would be rather something to see.

Ivory, again isn't working with a great novel, can't deliver so not him.

Joffe, actually would be a lot like Stone's, less political, maybe clunkier, but probably better looking.

Allen would be him wandering around battlefields, talking about if you think the Vietcong are bad, you should meet his ex-wife.
