7.5 - The most interesting thing about the film will always be the Guinness-Hayakawa conflict in the first half and the construction of the bridge, and it's amazing how much time Lean spends away from that plot. Holden takes up nearly the entire second half and Saito (one of the best characters) gets a single throwaway line of dialogue in the entire last hour. Lean spends too much time on the wrong stuff.
