I really dig this Top 4, but overall I would say this group is weaker than the late 00s starting from about #10 or 11. But it's not by a whole lot. Actually sometimes they feel about the same.
Both early 10s and late 00s are WAY behind the early 00s.
Someone else can take late 10s and early 20s because that's when movies started to slide and I can't name 10 movies I liked enough in the last 10 years.
1. Meek's Cutoff 2. The Wolf of Wall Street 3. True Grit 4. Pain & Gain 5. Nymphomaniac 6. Margaret 7. Toy Story 3 8. Sharknado 2: The Second One 9. Interstellar 10. Symphony no. 42 11. Wild 12. L'ete 13. The House of Tolerance 14. Somewhere 15. Sucker Punch
HM Killer Joe, Only Lovers Left Alive, Two Days One Night, Mildred Pierce

Haven't seen Antichrist.
I thought Melancholia and Breaking the Waves are about the same. Pretty good movies but imo, Von Trier is the type of director who needs his movies to be LONG. Nearly every single one of his movies are chronicles or miniseries by nature. The lack of at least 3 hours in those movies made them fall somewhat short of the maximum effect.
That's why Nymphomanic worked for me because it's a progression of this girls womanhood. I know Dogville is really long too but that eventually got tiring how it became a cycle on Kidman being abused and hated endlessly by the townfolks. That's what dragged it down for me.
Nymphomaniac is in my opinion Von Triers greatest film.

urbanpatrician True, there's something more novelistic about Nymphomaniac that's present even in Part One alone. I haven't seen it since its release but I remember watching Part 1 at least three times and being very much into the humour, how lighthearted and witty it was and finding intriguing all the observations it was throwing to different subjects, I was convinced it was my favourite Lars movie... to then respond very differently to Part Two, which I thought was crass and tacky. Watching it all in one sitting might make the difference though.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
* = In my Top 100 Favorite Films of All-Time list.
The U.S. release date for the English Dubbed version of When Marnie Was There (which is the one I watched and fell in love with) was in 2015, and It Follows also had a 2015 U.S. release date. So I consider them "Late 10's" movies (2015-2019), which is the only reason they're not included here (especially When Marnie Was There, which is my favorite animated film EVER).
