Which actor, among these options, in their lifetime will wane as a movie star sooner??
Once you reach a certain age, you inevitably lose that status.

Agree that Clooney's star has been on the wane for a while.

Yeah, Clooney's actively waning. Also don't think Jackman is a legit star outside of Wolverine.

Yeah, i think Up In The Air or The Descendants is his last relevant successful film as a movie star, and we are talking about fifteen years ago.
And honestly, i don't have huge expectations for Wolfs and the new Netflix Noah Baumbach movie, nor i do consider them as vehicles for a big resurgence of him.

Agreed. George Clooney is more like a Kardashian now. He's an entertainment personality/business person, not a movie star.

That's 7 years ago now and the film didn't open well (the usual indicator of a star's drawing power) but legged out like crazy over the holidays.

The Clooney pile-on might be a bit premature, I'd say it seems like he's more interested in directing currently. Since 2020 he has directed three films, meanwhile he has only starred in two films (his only released credits otherwise were a cameo and a voice role) and one of those films was a film he directed. And in terms of being a draw, his last starring role was Ticket to Paradise, which was definitely a success. We'll see how Wolfs does, but he's hardly dead in the water at this point.

Almost all these people have waned already.
Clooney was never really a true draw, get goodgod in here to do his rant. The only real big hits he has are Ocean's and Gravity. Ocean's is a franchise and more people were seeing the first one for Roberts and Pitt than him. Then of course Bullock was in Gravity and it was high concept sci fi. Everything that just gets sold on Clooney flops. And I like Clooney so this isn't to diss him but it is what it is.
For Pitt things like Babylon, Ad Astra, or Allied flopping shows he's not a true A-list draw anymore. OUATIH was a hit for Leo and Tarantino, I guess there's Bullet Train so maybe he's a bit of a draw for action still.
I know RDJ got an Oscar but I don't think he and Jackman have ever been draws outside of Iron Man and Wolverine.
Hard to say on Damon, that Last Duel flop really sticks out in a bad way, but he does have some minor hits like Air or Ford vs Ferrari.
Cruise, Washington, Hanks, and Will Smith as an action star are the ones I'd say haven't "waned".

Dolittle put the kibbosh on RDJ as a draw, which is why he's a character actor now.

Clooney was never really a true draw, Up in the Air 166 million on 25 mil budget. The American 69 mil on a 20 mil budget. The Descendants 177 mil on 20 mil budget. Money Monster 93 mil on 27 mil budget. Michael Clayton 93 mil on 21 mil budget. Even considering his semi-flops The Monuments still nearly doubled its budget, and Tomorrowland made 200 million (The problem was it cost 200 million). Regardless way more of his films make bank than don't so he definitely was a draw....and maybe still is based on Ticket to Paradise.

Downey Jr. has never really been a movie star outside of a brief period when he was Iron Man and Sherlock. Clooney seems done; a combination of that spinal injury he had on Syriana as well as his ongoing forays into directing mediocre movies (at least post-Ides of March). The rest still have juice, though Jackman hasn't had a big success since 2017.

1 - where's Keanu?
2 - can't believe Will is almost 60.
3 - my answer is Hugh Jackman followed by George.

The thing about Clooney is that he's not a huge Will Smith type money maker, but a mid-range film star. Basically don't put him in a big blockbuster budgeted film like Tomorrowland, and your movie will generally make its money back.
