definitely Traffic. I've never been able to get into Gladiator, even when I was younger. Too modern-feeling in the acting and dialogue, and weighed down in basic armchair historian cynicism. Traffic might be color-graded all to hell and be too-on-the-nose, but at its best it's a riveting and brilliantly-edited crime drama.

Definitely Gladiator. Traffic is one third of a good movie.

I always forget that Ridley didn't actually win for Gladiator. Feels like such a weird split.

Both these are good, prefer Gladiator as a movie. I think I'm fine with the picture/director split though.

Gladiator has a weak script and phenomenal direction.
Traffic has a watchable script and mediocre direction.
Overall Gladiator takes this.
