First one coming to mind is the ending of T-2. Cameron is Hollywood's crown jewel after this movie. His reputation shot up in a way I never saw before. Not even Robert Zemeckis's reputation felt enhanced by one movie as much. Even Forrest Gump while a cultural gamechanger, didn't really get seen as one visionary's creation as much as T-2. I felt T-2 was a kind of a director's blockbuster - and unique in that sense. (Realizing Spielberg exists)
The emotional impact it made on me is this idea of machines and humans finally in a state of unison and bond, and the potential to live in peace. The usually emotionally tough and strung-out Sarah Connor holding her hands out to a machine revealing the most human side of Sarah I've yet seen to this point. She finally accepted this Terminator, this killing machine as her friend. Thanks him in gratitude (tho maybe didn't completely show it under that veneer) for saving her and her son's life.... while Brad Fiedel's haunting, neo-apocalyptic, yet orchestral (could be conducted on violins) mesh techno score reaches the peak - and then destroyed me.

I've talked about this scene before (because I only have like maybe 3 topics tops  ) to me this is the greatest performance of male mental illness - females have a lot - but Damian Lewis in Keane (2004) is absolutely amazing in this film as a schizophrenic with too much on his mind and even better than Peter Greene was in the similar Clean, Shaven (same director, Lodge Kerrigan)........ The scene breaks my heart, partcularly in how he gets the songs words wrong, particularly in how this song cuts him and makes him bleed internally.........and wounds him.......... and particularly because it reminds me of too many people I knew in too many bars......... too many times over too many years......... |

Rocky’s speech in the scene below - specifically when he says “If I could take everything that was good, and put it into a bowl or something, and say ‘Hey, here, I’d like to buy one more day with my wife,’ I’d do it. I would die a happy man, right then.” And then the big breath he takes before continuing the speech... god that shit unexpectedly hit me like a semi truck when I saw the movie for the first time at the theater.
At the time I saw it, it was about a month before when my wife and I started dating. We were friends, but by that point I had fallen so incredibly hard for her that she was on my mind literally all the time. She had known how I felt about her for several months, had friendzoned me, but also had left the door slightly open for potentially something more to happen between us down the road. So I was pretty much in agony at that time, preparing myself for the possibility that she would ultimately decide just to continue to stay friends. I was already trying to figure out how to move on, but the uncertainty of the situation just made it extremely difficult to do so since I was convinced that I wouldn’t be able to find someone else that I would feel as strongly about.
Combined with my already emotionally fraught state was the fact that I was watching a damn good sequel to one of my all-time favorite movies, featuring a character I deeply loved in a movie series I had grown up watching obsessively, and listening to this character speak with such yearning and sadness that I had never seen from him previously while also working through my own personal feelings of intense yearning and sadness. It was also in this moment that I realized just how much I loved the Rocky/Adrian relationship and how the way it developed and grew over the course of the series was another big reason why this scene was so shattering for me.
After getting married and showing my wife the Rocky series (which she had never seen before), this scene actually means more to me now than when I first saw it, especially since my wife now claims that Rocky and Adrian is her favorite movie romance.
