Ths came up last nght watching Christie Sides coach Caitlin Clark into the fncking ground........she is a brutal coach and while I know she's getting fired like maybe today (not kidding) ........who are some athletes you feel were hurt permanently by the team that drafted them? Barry Sanders for one..........Andrew Luck - afaik - the ONLY athlete to go on an awful team that sucked and made them good immediately in year 1 (?)

You had both Griffin and Luck from that same goddamn much-hyped draft class. You could argue the mishandling of Griffin was even worse.
The last two years in the NFL we saw both Tua go back into a game for the Dolphins when concussed in 2022, and TJ Watt last year for the Steelers. You could argue the Dolphins didn't know, but anyone watching the game could figure it out, and he stayed in the game a while. Watt went back in with a visor on, so presumably everyone knew. Nothing to suggest either has been done any long-term damage, but the potential was right there.
It's been a criticism leveled at Tom Thibodeau in the NBA for a while now too. 10 years ago in Chicago when he had some of the hottest prospects in the NBA and ran them into the fucking ground. This year in New York with all the injuries they had seemed to have dragged all those memories back up. Has he gone and done it again?

Well the Colts were a very good organization at the time and got lucky that Manning got hurt the year before Luck was available. They were probably tanking a little too.
If you're going to say Luck seems like Marino definitely applies. Everyone talks about the Steelers passing on him because he was the hometown guy and they had good defenses all those years but bad offenses. Could have been another Steelers dynasty with Marino there.
Pete Maravich could have been 70's Larry Bird if he'd ended up on the Celtics or another good team instead of being stuck on the Hawks and Jazz.

Hmm, I thought you were talking literally HURT if not, then the list is long. You can't mention Barry Sanders without remembering Calvin Johnson disappearing down the same black hole. The same thing almost happened to Matt Stafford there too, but he at least got out. What a perfect metaphor for the world. How about poor Tony Gonzalez? Imagine if that guy was 10-15 years younger and got to play on Fat Andy's Chiefs. They've done alright for themselves at Tight End, but that didn't help him. Mike Trout is another one. Presumably he's content where he is, but it's crazy to think how many years they had both him and Ohtani and went absolutely nowhere. At least one of them got out and can now enjoy the pleasure of getting knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.

I actually just meant " had their feelings hurt" There are certain "cursed" cities - I'm sure Chicago and Buffalo fans can list a lot on the NFL side .........on the NHL side the Philadelphia Flyers are going to watch Sergei Bobrovsky win a Cup to go with his 2 Vezina trophies - a guy who they thought was a loudmouth novelty act - traded for basically nothing when he was clearly special.................. a goalie drafted (or signed) by the Flyers needs to either get out of town or fall back on his degree......marry rich........etc On the 22nd of June, 2012, the Philadelphia Flyers traded disgruntled goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2012 2nd round pick (Anthony Stolarz), 2012 4th round pick (Taylor Leier), and a 2013 4th round pick (used to re-acquire Simon Gagne).

Has he gone and done it again?I loved Thibs for a lot of reason but god damn was he unwilling to rest his players during the course of a long season. I think by the playoffs he wasn’t even taking Butler off the floor some games. He never looked at the big picture and it certainly cost a very talented roster playoff victories.
