Since this is (by far) the least engaged-with poll thus far, let me pose a question to you all: is this the most egregious split for you? I mean in terms of the quality difference between the film that won Best Picture and the film that won Best Director?
For me, the only other split that even comes close is Green Book/Roma... But even then, not really. This was, by far, Oscar's darkest night.
Also... Argo is the first Best Picture winner to win the poll!

For me personally, I see Crash as over-the-top, misguided, rather ridiculous... and unironically effective as a tearjerker.
BBM is too stuck in a minor key, too afraid to go for the big weepy tearjerker stuff. It's restrained and although it's all effective enough, I prefer the wild swings of Haggis's monster.

While I do feel Crash is extremely over-hated because I think it actually does do some things well (even if, like Green Book, it is extremely route one and plays to the cheap seats), this one's not close. Brokeback takes it.

I think '31, '36, '37, and '56 are all pretty bad. The only film that I've seen from this entire group is Giant. I'm not really sure I'll continue with the series after, like... 1967? 1951 is probably one where the majority have seen both films, though? |

I would say keep it going, but you could always do those little-seen years in one post. |
