why tf do i have to make these threads so often lol, slow day at the oscar bait factory? anyways, peak cinema. beautiful and sad and gave me a lot to think about w.r.t. analysis of the narrative and themes but also my own life and my relationship with nostalgia and normalcy. looks incredible too, can't think of too many directors who excite me more than schoenbrun at this pt.

Plus, did you forget about the strikes we had? Anyway, this seems like a good movie but I might wait until maybe the end of the year or at least when it comes streaming. I usually don't anticipate the best movies of the year yet because of what I just said. |

There are good movies beyond those that are vying for Oscars late in the year. |

Oh don't get me wrong, I see your point, but I'm honestly behind in a lot of movies (like I haven't seen a lot of the greats from this decade yet such as Tar, both Dunes, or The Holdovers). Plus, I've been busy with work and I've been recently living on my own. I apologize, I'm just kind of lazy and cheap these days. I might get back up, but I just don't have the energy.

World's Fair is maybe the best debut from recent years, at least from the U.S., and while I don't think this is quite as good - it simultaneously feels too busy and too minor compared to that film's effective minimalist creepypasta webcam aesthetic - I very very much liked it. Maybe have some qualms about the last 10 minutes or at least Justice Smith's overcooked performance during it but in general I was in love with its familiar yet specifically fresh vibe of suburban malaise, and the specific feeling it taps into of the simultaneous profound revelation of identifying yourself because of the media you love and the curse of letting it define your entire being is something that really resonated. Love what Jane's up to and can't wait to keep following their career.

Not terrible.....but not successful....... not as good - except fitfully, in a few striking moments - as it is just interesting to think about .........not as interesting to think about as it is - oddly, surprisingly amorphous to actually watch........not as amorphous to watch as it is - by the end at least ..........an unsatisfying cohesive experience........
A YA take on early David Cronenberg .......but also not as good as that sounds in theory either ..........so there's a kind of consistency in how many ways it is continuously falling short I guess.......

I have not been so completely enthralled in a movie in a very long time. Still processing my thoughts, but I thought this was something really special. My immediate response is an easy 10/10, and I honestly can't imagine lowering that score.
