I guess in a way, this is more of a listing event than a one-off poll. But anyway, upon this occasion, I'd like us to go back in time and list some songs that weren't up for the Oscar for Best Song but deserved to be.

Cowboy Bebop (the TV show the movie is based on) used a lot of music references for its episode titles. Sometimes it was just a genre reference ("Asteroid Blues," "Mushroom Samba") and other times they used song titles ("Honky Tonk Women," "Toys in the Attic," "My Funny Valentine") or the titles would reference something musical ("Stray Dog Strut" is a play on "Stray Cat Strut," "Jamming with Edward" is a Rolling Stones album). The episodes were even labeled as "Sessions." |

Speaking of foreign songs that are awesome... I was talking with Drish earlier about Haider - an incredible movie - and the theme to that movie is one of the most badass things I've ever heard

1964 is kinda crazy because not only do you have more great options from Mary Poppins besides its only nominee (and the winner) "Chim Chim Cher-ee," you also have "Goldfinger" and anything from A Hard Day's Night (plus more Beatles options from Help! the next year. Magical Mystery Tour wouldn't have been eligible, not sure what counts from Yellow Submarine, and they did win for Let It Be's soundtrack as a whole)
Also shout-out to some nice, un-nominated standards that were later elevated by much better covers, especially "I Only Have Eyes For You" from Dames and "At Last" from Sun Valley Serenade

How in the fuck did Blondie not get nommed for Call Me? My guess is the somewhat incestuous nature of the Academy's music branch. They gave that last song slot that year to a song written by a former nominee, never matter that the song was hated by most who saw the film |
