An actor that's somehow legendary and underrated at the same time. Some people feel he never quite had the run in the 70's and 80's he could or should have had because he shared similarities to Robert DeNiro in terms of castability, and a lot of those roles he could have played and maybe that more significant partnership with Martin Scorsese all went to DeNiro (I could very easily picture Kietel in The King Of Comedy for example).
He had a great resurgence in the 1990's as a fearless champion of independent cinema, and it's arguably that decade where he truly cemented his standing, with memorable roles in Bad Lieutenant, The Piano, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Clockers and more.
