Even Clooney is getting in on the stage racket. Truth is, deep down all the "movie stars" and actors who only do film/TV know that they aren't fully respected by a large swathe of their profession who do stage as well. And now they all want some of that respect. Wonder if we'll see the likes of DiCaprio, Phoenix and Brad Pitt try to get that stage cred as well soon. Anyway, while I commend Clooney for trying stage at Broadway level, he couldn't have picked a safer, easier theatre project for him to not fall flat on his face. Based on a film he directed and starred in  . Still, could potentially be a Tony Best Actor race of Denzel vs Robert Downey Jr vs Clooney next year, which would be wild! |

I can see QT doing a play after his ten. Post-QT will be interesting.

So this will be Clooneys’ first time ever acting on stage? That’s going to be interesting even if it’s material he’s very familiar with. Be curious to see how he performs and how theater critics will react. Hope it goes well..a potential Leading Actor in a Play lineup with Denzel, RDJ, and Clooney would make the Oscars envious. Would be one of the starriest lineups of all time in that category.

Yeah, I think it's Clooney's first time on stage ( maybe he did something in high school or something, but I can't find any record of professional theatre credits from him. If they exist, he must have kept it well hidden). Yeah that ABC 7 Chicago article says it’s his first time in his 40 year acting career so that answers that question. Kind of ambitious of him to try stage for the first time in a Broadway debut this late in his career. Be curious how his screen acting habits will influence his stage performance. Actually can say the same about RDJ even though he’s done stage before. It’s been a long time for him as well. It even took Denzel going through the mixed reactions to his Julius Caesar performance to find his stage footing again after not doing it for 15 years, although Good Night and Good Luck is a little different than Shakespeare..lol. Will be an interesting 2024-2025 Broadway season with all the big names involved. |

I love me some Clooney, but I think he should have probably dipped his toes into a stage comedy first.
That being said, if he's successful here, he'd make for an excellent Falstaff.

I think it's probably a bit too much of a leap to expect Clooney to start doing Shakespeare on stage, even if he does well on Broadway with his debut. Shakespeare is such a specialised thing that even very capable, veteran stage actors are known to avoid it, particularly on stage. Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall and Paul Newman were all serious and accomplished stage actors and all of them avoided Shakespeare completely. The language can trip even the best contemporary actors up. Clooney probably has the right idea picking something that he's very familiar and comfortable with from his film career to dip his toe into theatre waters, but for someone with no classical training or experience who is a stage novice to jump into Shakespeare at this late stage might be classed as extremely foolhardy. If he could sing, I think Clooney might be a fit for something like Guys And Dolls though, which has that comic element. Failing that if he can't sing, a Neil Simon play like The Odd Couple is comic, but also contemporary enough and American enough that Clooney should be able to slide into it without taxing his range beyond it's limits. |

I definitely have to agree there, I was honestly just thinking how his natural charisma/charm... and now age, would make for a really interesting Falstaff. Would probably work best for him as a film/tv adaptation in regards to him doing Shalespeare off the get-go. Still, I will maintain a Falstaff-esque role for him would be dynamite. |
