How do we feel about Challengers as an Oscar movie?
The reviews have been pretty good. 89% approval rating on RottenTomatoes, with an 8.1/10 critical mean. 84/100 Broadcast Film Critics rating. 7.8/10 IMDB user score. The film seems to be getting high praise for the three leads (Zendaya, Josh O'Connor, and Mike Faist), the screenplay (first-time screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes), and the score.
Call Me By Your Name is the only Luca Guadagnino film to receive any Oscar nominations.
How will MGM campaign for the performances from O'Connor and Faist? Will they both be considered "supporting" or will one go lead and the other go supporting? Do you see Zendaya getting nominated for Best Actress for the role?

I think its ceiling is maybe a stray Screenplay nomination and maybe Score for Reznor/Ross, and I can see Zendaya getting a Globe nomination, but again, far too early a release date and it's gonna get buried by post-festival releases and hype.

I think score. No chance for Guadagnino. I'm gonna say no for screenplay. No chance at all for any of the two dudes.
For Zendaya.... it's gonna depend on Gaga, Adams, or Ronan underwhelming. If 2 out of 3 underwhelms, I think Zendaya is in. If 1 out of 3 underwhelms.... it's possible but still probably gonna be close slightly squeeze in nomination day we'll find out thing. If none underwhelms.. it's gonna be hard.

From most to least likely...in categories that have any chance.
Zendaya, as she has general buzz that is extremely high, combined with Dune propels her further. She seems the best bet, unless Actress is too stacked later in the year.
Seems like a potential #5 spot in Original Screenplay type film...if the category is thinner.
Score, Rezor/Ross are well liked but they usually don't get in unless their films is a bigger contender.
Editing is flashy but hard to get in over bigger contenders in this category even with the flash.
Doubt either Faist or O'Connor get in, even if the latter were to fraud in supporting (which would be pretty severe fraud).

Maybe score. Screenplay of its a weak year. That’s about it. Probably nothing though.

I think it has a solid chance at Score. The music is not only tremendous, it's very forward throughout the movie so I think it'll stick out even if the film itself doesn't generate heat elsewhere. Which I don't think it will, aside from maybe an Original Screenplay nomination if the year is weak.
