It really is just Taylor Swift. I’ve never been a fan of her music but I’ve never had a problem with her personally, but over the past year or so she has really truly grown to be absolutely fucking insufferable

I'd love to live in world with no Kanye headlines for at least 5 years.

I'd love to live in world with no Kanye headlines for at least 5 years. Agreed, and I think he is probably the greatest major artist of this century.

I still think you overestimate Caitlin's ubiquity. My mom only knows Tay among the gals listed so far. She doesn't know Robbie, Stone, or Sweeney. Shes seen Lawrence but that's it among recent film actresses. And whenever I watch women's basketball she's like "turn that crap off" Shes kinda only been in the high headlines for 4 months and lots of people still have this inherent negative attitudes towards women's basketball.

As for the Kanye ubiquity comments..... how is he more ubiquitous than Slim Shady during his heyday?
Isn't his streak of Slim Shady-Mathers-Eminem Show equal to Kanye's 3 from 2010-2016?
Also, in terms of "important" 2010s artists. I'd venture to say people have radio stations designated to Lana Del Rey and Vampire Weekend. I don't like the latter, but Im not gonna deny people think they're staples of society and contemporary music.

I still think you overestimate Caitlin's ubiquity. * I think people can not process Clark because it has never happened before in Women's Sports - Period - It makes heads explode.......I mean over the past few weeks we have on MAR heard her compared to Tyler Perry (a US phenomenon only) and Lonzo Fncking Ball - GTFO .........like those aren't just bad takes ......they are batshit removed from reality left field takes..........see below - what female athlete gets this talk ever? I think people are getting annoyed because it's hard to even process ........... * Swift is just too big for the planet at this stage - and her fame is seeping into reviews of her artistry and sales power whether it should or not or whether it's true or not.........You can love Swift or hate her........ but Adele's 3 albums do not equate with Swift's FOURTEEN #1 albums for career sales - ffs people .....I mean I get it - Adele was huge (no joke intended!) and those titles outsold Swift individually .......... but it's still 14-3 for abums Edit 14-4 not 3************ In an article for OutKick, Kwatinetz wrote that BIG3's offer would have paid Clark $10 million in salary over two years, plus "a percentage of team ownership worth millions, 50 percent of merchandising revenues from her name and likeness, and ownership of a BIG3 documentary with a seven-figure advance."

No idea who Lonzo Ball is. I think she will be the face of women's basketball. Kinda like Tiger-golf. Pele-soccer for 25 years.... 1958-1982. Williams-Tennis. Billie Jean era Tennis too. I just think lots of people don't know her yet. Anyone who says Adele is equal to Tay needs some Lanthimos-esque transplants. Unless you were just avid radio listeners during the early 2010s and your mind is heavily stuck to one period. But I don't to the listen to the radio, ever. After 2000.

Looked back at the "female actress" thread and there were frequent comparisons to Stone, Robbie, and Lawrence. I misremembered Saoirse, thankfully. Not even a Lawrence fan but even that is a ridiculous comparison at this stage.

And no, Caitlin Clark is not at the level of household name some people on here have suggested she is. The women's title game had 19 million viewers. That's great, obviously the record for a women's game and bigger than what the NBA Finals or World Series get these days. But just for example Michigan-Ohio State, Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and the CFB national championship all got a bigger rating than that. Yet I'm sure there are no shortage of people who have no idea who Michigan's star quarterback JJ McCarthy is because they don't care about college football, just like plenty of people still don't care about women's basketball. Maybe that changes and she can do for the WNBA what Tiger did for golf, but that remains to be seen.

Maybe that changes and she can do for the WNBA what Tiger did for golf, but that remains to be seen. This is all true but the difference is there are a million JJ McCarthy's - there is only one player like Caitlan Clark that can be sold and marketed like that - in any sport - because she's a female and does not wear a helmet - she has so many things that act as visual cues to her (eventual) fame.........the pony-tail, her general look (pale white girl who shoots from far away) the number 22, the heart sign etc...........there's more to that than just the sport they play..........it depends how you express "household name" but visually she's extremely identifiable so people can eventually link that visual piece to her name .......even if they can't YET.....................obviously she is on the Tiger trajectory and the WNBA doesn't actually have a lot to do with it atm......... It will be TV commercials........and in her case an Olympic gold medal this Summer ........

Yep, it's Swift without question. Ya think? Australia thing, no doubt buddy ........ "In Australia, tunes from The Tortured Poets Department don’t just hit the ranking of the most-consumed tunes in the nation—they prove the star’s incredible popularity. Swift owns more than half of all the spots on the songs chart, and almost entirely with tunes from her exciting new set. On the 50-rung ARIA songs chart–the 50 spots that are viewable to the public, anyway–Swift’s name appears in 29 spots." www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2024/04/26/taylor-swift-owns-more-than-half-of-the-entire-songs-chart-in-one-country/

No idea who Caitlin Clark is.
I've got one: Timothy Chamalamelet, or whatever his name is. Swann Arlaud is providing the Frenchness I need. Boy, be gone.

So the guy who signed Michael Jordan's shoe deal for Nike is saying she could have gotten Jordan money ........even though we do not know the deal, the percentage, whether they (or she) can even renegotiate if she becomes "like Jordan" or how high it could even go........she has not set one foot on a WNBA court yet...... THAT's overhyped ........ and I fncking love her but calm down

Jordan's first Nike deal was only 500k a year so Clark is getting more than that even adjusting for inflation. Gotta actually sell some shoes before you get what he did later.

Gotta actually sell some shoes before you get what he did later. ...yeah and it's pretty funny that people think Nike is trying to screw her on a shoe deal - when the "8 years" is clearly to have her do 3 runs at Olympics........I mean that deal is worth more than 28 mil but we don't know it yet.......and their relationship with her goes back to NIL...like they are invested in her longer than 8 years and for more than 28 million ......
