This sucks. I love her lots, but what is she doing? She's also producing a live action Sims movie. This is so unserious. Barbie movie was a mistake.

Hollywood isn't deeply original. Robbie produced a film based on a childrens toy franchise that was critically acclaimed and made over a billion dollars.
So every high concept game or toy franchise with some built in nostalgia will be offered to her production company, in hopes of capturing lightning in a bottle again.

This is like when a good band sells out. Talent wise I'd say she's second to Sheeshaw of the under 35 crop but stuff like this isn't going to show it.
Looking forward to a "controversy" about presumably gender swapping Mr. Monopoly though.

Looking forward to a "controversy" about presumably gender swapping Mr. Monopoly though. Well, she might not neccesarily appear in it. She's produced a couple projects she hasn't starred in ( Saltburn, Promising Young Woman), so there's every chance she's just doing stuff like The Sims & Monopoly as a cash cow for her production company, and might not be in them. I noticed none of the announcements for those projects said she was acting in them. If she's just going to produce these things, she can still act in less high concept, gimmicky films.

Hollywood isn't deeply original. The state of the industry is genuinely depressing, like extremely depressing. I swear I'm not a doomer, but I can't ignore the sharp decline in quality of output over the last decade. Even the talent has dropped.

Her, Ronan, and Jodie Comer are the under 35 holy trinity for me.
Where did you see they're gender swapping Mr. Monopoly?

Can't even think of a plausible storyline. Anyway, JK Simmons for the win.

Most talented actresses under 35?
I'd put Adele Exarchopoulos & Florence Pugh in the mix as well

Funny how her production company first made a name for itself with indie films that became Oscar contenders and now they are going the franchise route.

I have absolutely no idea what she'd do with this or the Sims movie and that's why they're exciting. No one believed in Barbie either.

Yes, that's the online nickname for her from Dennis Quaid butchering her name when he was reading the Oscar nominations one time. I was assuming Robbie was in the lead as Mr Ms. Monopoly. If she's just producing maybe not.

It just appears to me like studios are looking to attach her name to their project in the wake of Barbie's success and she's willing to do it because:
1) it probably won't be much actual work on her company's part 2) it helps build credit for the company to be attached to major projects 3) even if the projects end up falling through, she establishes a working relationship with major film companies as a producer

The industry has enough slop. There was an article last year that executives have plans to make movies about Hot Wheels and Magic 8 Ball. In a couple years, are we going to have discourse about how Hot Wheels deserved an Oscar nomination or something? I’m uncomfortable to say the least about this trend

13 Dead End Drive is the one board game that deserves a movie, Margot. Get your production company on that!

I’m uncomfortable to say the least about this trend After a couple flops, the trend will stop. Artless execs are thinking right now any toy can be a movie, not realizing that Barbie had other things going in its favor - i.e. having actual pre-established characters, going all-in on the undervalued female film market, and legit filmmakers behind it.

Candyland is better than Monopoly, you fools. but something tells me they dont play Candyland in Australia.
Otherwise Margot Robbie wouldve done it already because Im guessing Margot Robbie likes children's games and toys.
