really love when PTA plays dressup with his 40s and 50s cinema influences for psychological costume dramas so There Will Be Blood, Master, and Phantom Thread will always be the projects I love the most. Master from this list definitely, and it might be my favorite PTA altogether. For sentimental reasons as it was one of Hoffman's last (and best) major roles, but also because the script is so dense that you can always come back and find something new. It's one of those movies you just sit back and let wash over you.

Hard Eight is just fine. Magnolia lost something for me last time I rewatched it (probably 8 years ago) -- maybe Moore's acting, maybe that random singalong in the middle that came out of nowhere. Punch Drunk Love I just never dug, and Boogie Nights is an old favorite in desperate need of a rewatch.

The Master is Hoffman's best performance easily for me, for PTA.

Best film, I have to probably go with Boogie Nights. It's PTA at the kind of apex of perfectly combining arthouse cinema with enough mainstream sensibility to also appeal to general audiences that I don't think he ever quite did as well again.

The Master is probably on most levels the better film and performance........but Boogie Nights is the Goodfellas of PTA's films........the most rollickng and fun to watch and I've seen it the most and would watch it right now......The Master not so much.........and since it's Friday......fuck it.......fun wins

This one was tough, since The Master is easily Hoffman‘s best performance in a PTA film. But imo, their greatest and most accomplished film together is Boogie Nights, so I went with that.

TWBB is my favorite PTA film overall, but The Master is maybe his most poetic film, and one that deepens with each rewatch. When I first saw it, I had never seen anything like it before... and I still haven't seen anything like it since.

I'm sure TWBB would win if we did a poll for all PTA films. Would probably be between The Master, Phantom Thread, and Boogie Nights for no. 2. PTA's got a deep filmography.
