I know nobody but me and Martin Stett is gonna care but... who cares! Naoko Yamada, aka the greatest female director of all time, finally returns with a new feature. It was initially supposed to come out in 2023 but got postponed because they couldn't make the date, and now we know that it's opening in Japan on August 30. No idea when the rest of us will get a chance to see it but I'll be waiting for that day like a dog. It is, after all, my most anticipated film of the year To nobody's surprise, I think it looks absolutely gorgeous. Yamada, Reiko Yoshida, Kensuke Ushio, high school students, legs, A BAND! I'm gonna eat. this. UP. And so what if the trailer comes without subtitles?

It looks adorable. I think Liz and the Blue Bird is a masterpiece and amongst the very greatest directorial achievements of all time, but Yamada's TV shows haven't hit the mark for me, and I'm a little pensive that she isn't really my cup of tea. This looks more like K-On than Liz (I don't feel a sense of suffocation and crushing terror emanating from this), but the problem with K-On is that there was too much of it, and it got stale. Perhaps a movie format may prove more agreeable for what seems to be something on the lighter side.
