Romy Schneider in L'Important c'est d'aimer - I suppose the entire film could qualify, but this scene in particular is seared into my memory: ![](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9e1098a4b35aca71c2bbe2972bc1f6b5/5695415de6c16b04-a5/s540x810/9e7a727c1ac2aa56876eb1416bfe62f73c67937b.gif) Not NEARLY enough close-ups of beautiful females staring directly into the camera and weeping in film history ........speaking of which: ![](https://64.media.tumblr.com/592cc39e85efef488903321893e8c199/tumblr_mtv49ps9f31riywn4o1_500.gifv)

For men, I think Clift is king, and you can really take your pick. The scene that George Chakiris robbed of an Oscar springs immediately to mind, but I like that one where he first shows up to his uncle's party in A Place in the Sun.

Janelle Monae in Moonlight. Sublime, all time #1 worthy performance
