Hearing of Adeles recent Cesar win (I know it's old news) but I dont remember a thread on it before today's got bumped up....I'm really out of touch with French cinema. Adele has always been one of my favorite young talents to come out of the last 10 years. I saw Down By Love and she was so seethingly beautiful. And of course Blue is the Warmest Color she was the standout. But most of her movies are not known to Americans. I'm glad she seems to be slaying in France. So I'm wondering what auteur or next big French movie can resurrect her into the limelight of the Western Hemisphere. But I dont think I know who's really big in France or most acclaimed right now. I know American things and some Far Eastern things but definitely wouldnt know the first European name to help my fantasy of an Adele resurrection here in Tinsletown. pacinoyes....you're surely in the know with this. Its your metier.

In terms of worldwide acclaim, it's Sciamma pretty easily right now. I believe Leos Carax and Jacques Audiard still command a good deal of respect, but are more inconsistent in terms of the splash their films make.

Martin Stett saw it ......didn't hate it.......the rest of MAR was out watching Barbie or chasing birds or whatever the fnck they watch movie-wise ffs..............sigh Btw - "my metier" - Chinatown reference?

No. I dig that Gittes line (it runs contrary to my experience...) but I just see you post about French stuff a lot. I like Isabelle and Gerard but I havent seen as many movies as you have. I'm pretty ignorant on Autiel tho besides Cache. And lol political wack job is the apt description. And yes I thought about Ozon. I'm unlucky to not have gotten Adele in Swimming Pool. If I had a time machine I'd give up at least a piece of my fortune to see Adele in that role and by the pool all day long, ya know. Ludivine is fine but Adele is just way hotter.

Not the most acclaimed, but Emmanuel Mouret deserves more attention.
