Yes or No?

He's great in the film (MVP, if you ask me), but I'd be shocked if he nabbed a nod because, as with those who think Austin Butler's in with a shot, it's March and there's a surfeit of major contenders yet unseen. Dune: Part Two would only get acting nominations if a lot (and I mean a lot) of presumed contenders fall on their faces.

I Liked him but no way.
1) the part isn't meaty enough to justify it (no showy monologue, no huge impact on the plot, no transformation) 2) It's a genre flick, for which he doesn't have a strong narrative behind yet (like a KHQ) or the show-stealling impact like a Ledger. (*or even Gosling). If anything we should predict Butler's imo (which is also a nay from me).
3) it's too soon to, err, call it.

The thing is the more you think about it, Bardem has such a classic supporting actor role in this. It's a classic supporting role . . . in a sci-fi blockbuster sequel that released in March. There aren't a lot of antecedents to this sort of performance getting any sort of recognition. If you're predicting Bardem (or any Dune actor) to get in, then you should be expecting the film to be in with a shot to win Best Picture, because that level of support indicates broad favour within the Academy. It's not impossible, and Bardem is a previous winner and the Academy really likes him (and it helps that it's one of the best performances he's given in the last decade), but again, a lot would have to go right in Dune: Part Two's favour and a lot would have to wrong for most other movies this year for it to actually materialize.

Not sure why he'd be prioritised for a supporting actor campaign over Austin Butler, who got far stronger reviews than him, so no. But I doubt anyone gets nominated at this point.

Butler did not get "far stronger" reviews than Bardem. They both got really good ink. Butler plays a flashier role that is going to get more people talking about him because he's still a rising actor and it's a much more transformative performance. But if you read the reviews, Bardem's plaudits are just as strong and even on social media, people are shouting out Bardem's performance as a standout. (Even if you go off the meme train, Bardem's character is reaping most of the benefits there.)

If you want to show me some of the major reviews where Bardem is getting singled out over Butler, then I'm happy to look at them. I'm just going by what I read myself, which were a ton of reviews singling out Butler for "stealing" the movie or playing one of the best villains in years, if not ever. Bardem got good ink like pretty much all the cast, but honestly, some reviews I read that were praising everyone from Butler to Zendaya to Chalamet to Ferguson didn't even say anything about Bardem's performance. Wheras, I hardly saw any reviews that didn't single out Butler among the cast. So I personally don't see their "ink" on equal footing. But again, just based on what I was reading.

Well yeah it's easy to find reviews signalling out Butler when you're just searching his name on Twitter "one of the best villains in years, if not ever". I really wish I had the self control to not engage, but the clownery makes it too hard to resist

It'd be great and he'd deserve it but the movie ain't getting any acting nominations and we all know that.

I loved him in it (MVP!), but I really doubt it happens. He’s not the clear standout, especially with Butler as competition. Dune is also not the type of film that gets acting nominations. It’s also an early release.

I won't buy Dune having a chance at an acting nod until Halloween at the earliest.

Doubt it very much, but stranger things have happened... I don't think it's impossible
