IMO he is very talented. I know he is widely regarded as a "one hit wonder" (District 9) but I dig Elysium & Chappie too. His films feature jaw dropping cgi and I think they have a lot of heart. Also , he is releasing some short films soon . Here's a trailer for one of them.

I love District 9. Elysium is solid. Chappie is sorely underwhelming. I like Die Antwoord's music but they are just NOT actors. I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll make something great again.

I loved him after 9, now I can't stand him at all. Do you find that the messages in his movies are too heavy handed? Thats one of the criticisms I keep reading about . For me, I just viewed Elysium & District 9 as badass sci fi films (nothing more). A lot of his critics didn't seem to like the "heavy handed" messages regarding immigration and universal healthcare in those two films. As for Chappie, my only complaint was Die Antwood (or whatever they are called). Neill should have cast actual trained actors , not some rap group for the leads. Hugh Jackman was awesome in Chappie though. Loved the mullet he was rocking haha. Blomkamp is still a relatively young director so I hope he gets more opportunities in the future.

District 9 was great. Elysium was not. Didn't bother with Chappie.

I've only seen District 9, which I disliked. Just a very mediocre film. I have no interest in Elysium, and Chappie looks terrible, so I guess you can say I'm not a fan.

District 9 - 8 / 10 Chappie - 6.5 / 10 Elysium - 5.5 / 10
Not a huge fan (he's a bit of a one trick phony), but I can't say I entirely dislike either of his three films so far. I was fine with him getting booted from Alien though.

A fantastic director, and a mediocre writer. His shot composition is fine, not quite superb.

He's gotten progressively weaker as a filmmaker since D9. Chappie was such a disaster across the board.
Still, if it wasn't cancelled, there's no doubt his Alien 5 would've been way better than Covenant.
