The idea of this poll is to take the BP winner of each year and reimagine them with the best director nominees of that year, and ask which director would make the best version of that film. If the BP winner was nominated in directing, that option will not be listed.
So our choices for Slumdog Millionaire are...
David Fincher Stephen Daldry Ron Howard Gus Van Sant
Previous winners: 2022: Ruben Östlund's Everything Everywhere All at Once 2021: Ryusuke Hamaguchi's CODA 2020: Lee Isaac Chung's Nomadland 2019: Martin Scorsese's Parasite 2018: Spike Lee's Green Book 2017: Jordan Peele's The Shape of Water 2016: Kenneth Lonergan's Moonlight 2015: Lenny Abrahamson's Spotlight 2014: Wes Anderson's Birdman 2013: Martin Scorsese's 12 Years a Slave 2012: Steven Spielberg's Argo 2011: Woody Allen's The Artist 2010: Joel & Ethan Coen's The King's Speech 2009: TBD

Fincher could be extremely interesting, would be starker but I think probably more honest to the nature of the world the film is depicting.
For Daldry simply watch Trash.
Howard would make a very similar film, just with far less frantic editing.
Given it would be mainstream Van Sant more likely than arthouse Van Sant, his film would be fairly similar to Boyle's, though with the stylistic leaps in different more unexpected ways, maybe not always for the best.

Those are the most boring choices for 09 guys, if I could will Lee Daniels' The Hurt Locker into existence I would.
