I just finished watching episode 9. One more episode to go. The show is really, really good. It kind of reminds me of early Quentin Tarantino. Natasha Lyonne does a wonderful job as the lead, Charlie Cale. Every episode has a brand new cast. I am surprised to see no threads on this. Maybe because it's Peacock, but it is from Rian Johnson.

What is wrong with Rian Johnson? He hasn't made anything good since Brick. Knives Out is the biggest laugh - the one-note preaching, the predictable mystery, the dour tone to our goody-goody heroine undercutting anything Craig could possibly bring to it... *sigh* I have no interest in Glass Onion, but I've heard from reputable sources (re: people who tend to hate the same stuff I do) that it is very bad. Looper was dumb (I can't remember it well enough to be more specific), The Last Jedi was MORONIC (although I admire that Johnson swung for the fences with it... he swung at three wild pitches in a row and smashed his catcher in the face with his bat, but he did go all out) - anything with the fucking Holdo plotline or the fucking casino planet should never have reached screens.

Preach. Brick is awesome, and he did some very good Breaking Bad episodes, but Rian Johnson has become an embarrassment. Brothers Bloom was mid, Looper and TLJ are atrocious, Knives Out is okay, Glass Onion sucked.

I watched Glass Onion, and it's even worse than Knives Out. I'm aghast Netflix spent $500 MILLION for that.

Wow, hating Rian Johnson. So edgy, so fucking cool, such a rebel move. 🤦♂️😴
I'm not a big fan of his either, but as seemingly the first person writing on this thread besides Fease who's actually WATCHED the show in question, I think it's pretty silly (to put it mild af) that the first 5 or 6 posts are just bitching about his previous work. POKER FACE is an excellent show with an even better lead performance from the wonderful Natasha Lyonne. Would highly recommend it to any COLUMBO fans, as it's the closest ANY show in the 21st century has come to capturing that "we-know-who-did-it but how will they get caught" COLUMBO magic. MONK was a lot of fun, but this is so much better. Excellent directing, writing, and some truly fab celebrity guest turns (Nick Nolte, JGL, Adrien Brody, just to name a few). Truly one of the best shows of 2023.

The show is indeed a lot of fun (fifth and ninth episodes are personal fave), Lyonne is a delight to watch and it's great that guest starts all get to do something interest. Looking forward to the second season.

From episode to episode it ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous (sometimes both at the same time). Seeing hour-long episodic TV in this day and age seemed so strange to me but Lyonne was incredible and kept it rolling the whole way through. Its occasional moments of cinematic presentation were epic and classy as fuck. Honourable mention to Charles Melton, who after seeing here I was finally convinced was actually a real actor, a good actor, and not just some poor sad man Todd Haynes found wandering around on the street mumbling to himself and stuck in front of the camera.
