I can't find any decent J. Law threads.... so I'll just put it all here. I wanna start..... random tidbit. All 25 items of Winter's Bone is checked out in the LA library. It's a 13 year old movie that no general person cares about except for Lawrence. 0 items of The Blind Side is checked out, for comparison's sakes. She's truly one of America's girls. I think she'll approach Bullock/Jolie levels just as long as she works a lot. If she does 1 movie per year, she's probably not gonna get there. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/HsFft41Z/2022-01-28.png)

No gripe, but you can watch an HD version of that movie legally (MAX) or illegally in about 30 seconds with access to a computer. I only check out DVDs from the library of stuff that's impossible to find otherwise.

She's truly one of America's girls. You mean, like... She has US citizenship? Ha.... she does! That's the one thing we share in common. But no... I meant she is THE actress of America. One of them. She can do comedy....in fact... she's primarily in the comedy genre. The movies that people like... not the Nyad May/November whatever stuff. She's appeared in teen franchises. She auditioned for Twilight, and they went with Stewart. Imagine Twilight with Lawrence and how big Jennifer would be now if they made the right move. K-Stew was fine in the movie tho.... not meaning to slight her. She's been nominated 4 times and she's only 34. twice more than Roberts in the same time. 4 more times than Bullock. 3 times more than Jolie. Plus, she's only 34. She was in a movie this year I'd argue was more interesting than most of the Best Actress nominees.... ripe time for a comeback. Julia Roberts watch out. Sandra Bullock watch out. Angelina Jolie watch out. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/6692321/images/KAUR26Rad8w62aSMorQH.gif)

There's an amazing amount of English language actresses right now who could excel at a genre no one really wants to make.... the screwball comedy .......Lawrence (NHF WAS a screwball comedy), Stone obviously, Wasikowska (a tremendously physical performer - could be great at it), Rachel McAdams........ The Coen Brothers should come up with a movie for these ladies........there's more too (Nina Arianda ffs!!).........no one seems really interested in making that kind of movie anymore ........the Coens were masters of it often........Russell likes that genre but looks past his sell date...........it's depressing tbh......like Kevin Costner drops a Western trailer and grown men get all weepy about the return of the tumbleweed and stuff but no one wants a new Bringing Up Baby?

Hmh.... My favorite Katharine Hepburn performance is a comedy.... Bringing Up Baby. I feel like all the great actresses needs a great comedy to cement their status as a pop culture icon and all-time great. Name a great actress without a great comedy? unless you're just of the Bergman/Huppert/Ullmann tree. I don't think it's just their element, although I've seen all 3 be pretty funny at least once, or twice. Or you can be like........Tyler_Deneuve, and talk about Nyad or May/September with 15 people on the internet. I jk I jk. My parents and girlfriends, however, are more interested in debating if J. Law is hot or not, funny or not, overrated or not, etc.

unless you're just of the Bergman/Huppert/Ullmann tree. I think it's because actresses are less likely to work "a brand" and females in general are more easily adaptable....to slip into a comedy......than a great male dramatic actor.............like to me Huppert has been very funny at times - 8 Women, Greta - but it's not her calling card........but Ullman really wasn't and Ullman is very great........and I'm talking like top tier great One of the things that lends Lawrence (and Stone) a certain sheen to do a screwball comedy or a modern screwball comedy - is Jennifer Lawrence is particularly convincing at humorous cursing..........like you could give her foul mouthed dialog ........and she'd make that shit zip.........it's quite odd but seriously - when Jennifer Lawrence says "Doesn't anybody FUCK anymore?" in NHF .........well, it was funny to me in a way that few actresses are ......I'm telling ya pal.........a foul mouthed screwball lesbian comedy ........um ........how come I have to come up with these ideas? That's gold dammit

I like how committed she is in No Hard Feelings but I still find her incredibly annoying and wish she would just shut the fuck up about everything.

While futuretrunks is still mentally debating whether J. Law wants to be in a good movie or not.
Let's just....see. Her upcoming 5 projects is basically a rankfest of most interesting to least interesting.
I highly doubt none of the 5 are gonna turn out to be good movies, and..... those are with Paolo Sorrentino, Lynne Ramsey, and Luca Guadagnino. Maybe none of those are big names to some people, but Ratcatcher is a British classic. And Lynne Ramsey has a tendency to do these small intimate films with huge dramatic or gutpunching power. The Great Beauty is a pretty good movie. Luca Guadagnino always gets this board talking..... and he did work with the greatest living actress.... and directed her to another great work.
If I had to rank from most interesting to least interesting based on vague soundings:
1. Die, My Love 2. Burial Rites 3. Sue 4. East of Eden (the original is also not really that good anyways, so I don't see an improvement being a hard task to accomplish) 5. Mob Girl
But I think all 5 sounds just dandy. A J. Law comeback is pretty much inevitable at this point.

Her line "these rules are more like suggestions" from No Hard Feelings has become one of my go-to lines and it's the one I've been using the most lately to people who are always paranoid about cops and public signs.
Winters Bone is also a pretty cool movie. 2010 was such a a good year..one of the last good years.
Also....check out J Laws mug. Gotta be one of the biggest coffee mug I've seen:

I liked her in Don't Look Up, but she's everything I said back in the IMDB days. Poor at emoting, technically limited, and not a savvy chooser of projects/directors. Her fan message board shut down because of how frustrated some fans got with her career. Crazy.

Pass-around pick-me with marginal talent. She continues to say the dumbest shit (e.g., the open letter praising Amy Schumer for...promoting genocide?), and unsurprisingly is fading into the background compared to her contemporaries like Stone and Robbie.

I guess we could include Ronan and Stewart here as well, who seem to have surpassed her at least in terms of relevancy. Wasikowska appears to be working exclusively in Australia now, so naturally her footprint wouldn't be as big... I miss her!

Ronan is critically acclaimed but has zero commercial or audience appeal. I doubt she’ll ever be 1/4 the movie star that Lawrence is even now.

Pittsnogle_Goggins - Hm... Well, I think "movie star" is such a relative term these days (unless you're Tom Cruise or Leonardo DiCaprio). I'm not denying that Jennifer Lawrence is better known than Ronan, but don't you think that's simply by virtue of her headlining a huge franchise series ( The Hunger Games)? Also, please don't forget that Brooklyn and Lady Bird were both huge arthouse successes - Ronan's face is the selling point for both of those films... She truly delivers star turns in both (at least IMO). I won't include Little Women here as that is a known success as an IP, but... that was also a huge commercial hit. Edit: The posters for Brooklyn and Lady Bird - ![](https://i.etsystatic.com/51597930/r/il/121d11/5911373666/il_1588xN.5911373666_hyjf.jpg) ![](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/gl66K7zRdtNYGrxyS2YDUP5ASZd.jpg)

I'm sorry, but Ronan herself had nothing to do with the success of Brooklyn and Lady Bird. She's not a draw.

She’s an amazing actress but she’s not a draw or recognizable name to general audiences. Lawrence on the other hand, even with some stumbles and time away, still has vastly more commercial appeal.
