For those of you with your common moviegoer doubts, I am here to say...you need not worry. This movie is AWESOME. Whereas BvS took itself too seriously and Suicide Squad hardly took things seriously at all, Wonder Woman nicely blends the action, drama, humor, and heart. Gal Gadot kicks so much ass, but I can't leave out Pine, Wright, and Davis. The latter two make such an impression for what little time they have there (yes, sorry to say for those excited for either or both of them, they aren't in it nearly as much as I'd like them to be). And even beyond the major themes that everyone is already talking about, I think it's super relevant to now in its contrast between Diana's hope for the planet and everyone else's cynicism regarding what went on then and what's happening now. Another thing I like is that it has very little to do with Justice League and it's not there to set something up for that movie or future movies. It's its own thing and it works so damn well. Bless Patty Jenkins. Bless Gal Gadot. Check this shit out.

Finally a solid one. Actually a really good one. Has a clear character arc unlike the previous DCEU films. Doesn't feel like it's been butchered in the editing room. It's saturated color palette is there, but is understandable. It isn't thematically confused or muddled. It has heart and humor, but gets serious when necessary. Gal is really good and benefited greatly from her chemistry with Pine.

Good review. I'm definitely looking forward to this one soon myself. It sounds like it got properly treated like a standalone Wonder Woman movie.
Makes me wonder if the studio really needs to rely on Snyder too much to helm their Universe. I don't really have much against him though..

I loved it. It's not 96% RT kinda great but i have to say Wonder Woman is the best DCEU film by miles and perhaps the best superhero origins story after Batman Begins. Am i missing anything in between?
Anyway loved every minute of Gal Gadot and Diana's character. She is beautiful, naive, kind, ferocious, unforgivable. Gadot played all these characteristics to perfection. Quite a surprise to see a well developed character arc with in less (movie) time and that too from DCEU. She makes the mighty Bruce Wayne and co. look like caricatures. Credit goes to Patty Jenkins.
Chris Pine is the surprise package. He provided a lot of humor and gave the movie a much needed heart. Reminded me of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter arc in Captain America: First Avenger. Robin Wright is fine but limited.
Action part lacked a the adrenaline rush. Villain is a bit too 'Marvel'ous and the pacing is not refined.
All said and done a really good film. Will watch it again- 7.5/10

1. special shout out to the parents who brought with them the best I can tell 6 year old male child who spent the entire movie crying or yelling while the mommy put her feet on the chair in front of her and kept eating peanuts out of the bag that made so much noise. I'm in Poland so there was a dubbed version available but no, let's bring the offspring to subtitles. It's too fucking bad this didn't happen during Logan because if someone interrupted my Jackman experience I'd call the cops. 2. special shout out number two to the sequence that I feel illustrates female grace vs male brutality better than Amazons vs Soldiers - me walking home from the movie while wearying my cute red shoes and lacy dress passing the guy who was sitting down on the bus stop and puking and holding his nose to let the snot fall on the sidewalk. Forget murdered children - show this to Diana and ask if humanity is worth saving I need to think about this but this may be the best CBM Origin movie yet. I'm not big on Batman Begins. But as for CBM in total Logan wins it all though this movie moved me almost as much. But there was something that kept really annoying me and that's editing. There is one really great thing they did where after Diana killed Danny Huston she left the sword there. Then she meets real Ares and goes for the sword on her back and the scene cuts and you go 'well the sword isn't there' and then when the scene comes back it's evident that she flew back and got the sword. So that's nice continuity. Which makes two other scenes so infuriating: 1. Steve's secretary noticing someone is following them - that cut away so fast I didn't realize what the hell happened 2. The bullet bouncing off Diana's bracelet and killing some guy and her standing there with 'oh no' look on her face. That was way too short. That's her realizing people die by accident because of her powers and it was maybe 4 seconds I normally don't notice things like that but here for some reason this stood out to me probably because everything else was so well done. Another thing that I don't think worked was the secretary character which was funny but I felt they expected me to find her much more amusing than I did. Other than that: 1. The score is tremendous. It's noticeable in 'what a great score!' kind of way. It's epic and what's most important - it's memorable. I really love 'Is she with you?' theme, imho it's one of the most distinctive superhero movie themes there. I LOVED the way they incorporated it - first the notes, then the drums, then the guitar and finally that amazing rendition of drums and then guitar. Brilliant. 2. Robin Wright was amazing in her short screentime - that smirk before she rides into the battle was fantastic 3. The villain was pretty awesome given that he had a good point. But because Diana was brought up to value life and would never kill the innocent you never question why she doesn't join him
4. The humour landed almost the entire time - it felt natural and it was very funny not just the lines but the actors did great work - like Pine's expression after she emerges in a coat and a hat basically wearying the same thing he is wearying 5. Diana's sweetness never felt annoying and was so endearing. Seeing it clash with the horrors of war was so moving and Gadot was perhaps the most impressive showing that just with her face like when she sees the wounded soldiers 6. And it's because of that why No Man's Land sequence is so badass - because she walks in there after seeing that woman with a child. We saw practically the entire scene in trailers but because of Diana's reasons to walk there and the score it's so powerful 7. There was a lot of slow mo but it didn't bother me because the fight scenes were so beautifully choreographed and there was not too much editing so you could actually see what was happening 8. the third act was great because it wasn't disjointed between too many different characters. It was also loaded with moving scenes like her sparing Dr Poison and that biggest punch of the movie - Steve laughing as he is about to sacrifice his life and doing just that and Diana seeing it and reacting to it. The whole thing with repetition - first seeing their goodbye when we cannot hear it and then it coming back in pivotal moment was brilliant. And goddammit that 'wish we had more time' line. Between this and 'you still have time' from Logan I feel I will cry the next time I simply hear the word 'time'. 9. The film looked beautiful - the colors, the costumes, all of it was just lovely 10. The little girl who played the youngest Diana was ADORABLE 11. And finally Gal was great. I think Pfeiffer and Robbie delivered better work in CBM genre but it's hard to imagine anyone else playing her character. She sold every single emotion to the audience and had excellent chemistry with the cast. And that smile! That alone captured the nature of the character so well So those are my initial thoughts but I really liked it and cannot wait to see it again. I also thought it did an admirable job in making such a pure, good heroine feel so likable and interesting and also in delivering the message - not excusing humanity but saying you should stand up for what you believe and do the right thing according to your rules and morals and don't look at what the others do. As for the grade it's somewhere between 8,5 and 9 for me so so far I can just say 9/10

Gal was born to play Wonder Woman. Thought this was a lot of fun and had a lot of charm & heart (something the DC Universe desperately needed). Great mixture of drama, comedy and action/thrills. Could have done without a lot of the slow mo but thats just a minor complaint. I would recommend seeing this in theaters for sure.
Also can we get some crowd reports folks? I saw Wonder Woman during a freaking AM showing and it was damn near sold out! If my theater is any indication , this thing is going to have a MASSIVE opening

Still don't think it's that good I saw Logan around the same time of the day and that was a week after the premiere and the place was packed. We barely had any advertising here - I think I saw TV spot for WW twice in a week and there are absolutely no posters anywhere. But our country doesn't matter when it comes to BO, not really

Really hope this takes off in a big way.

Lots of laughter at the funny parts, "whoa" reactions to the action scenes, and applause at the end.

It's good, not as great as it's hyped up to be. DC played it safe in a Marvel sort of way, and, for the most part, made a much better movie than the standard Marvel product. The entire middle chunk, in between the origin story and the finale, is incredible. Gadot and Pine had great chemistry together, and I really enjoyed watching their storyline play out. Loved the early 20th century London aesthetic, the WWI action sequence was *stunning*, etc. The origin story, in my opinion, was poorly executed. Much of it felt glossed over. Though nothing prepared me for the total disaster of a finale, with one of the worst villain twists I've ever seen. Not to mention, I hated the fucking manipulation of Greek mythology to serve the needs of the story.
But aside from a few of the things I expressly didn't care for, it was nicely-done overall.

I really dug it. Coming off the terrific, genre-defying Logan and the disappointing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Wonder Woman felt like a very necessary and refreshing back-to-basics approach.

I don't think it was a genre game-changer or anything, but it definitely is refreshing to see DC put out a clean, almost spotless flick that is both fun and heavy. Gal Gadot is electric, and while I've quite liked Cavill and especially Affleck in their leading roles in the DCU, she is far and away the standout (although to her credit, the writers seem to have a better handle on her character, having built her more or less from the ground-up rather than relying on previous cinematic incarnations of the character to do the heavy lifting). She owns the screen, being convincing as a being who is naive and idealistic, yet not to an aggravating degree as characters of that ilk typically come off (*cough* Thor *cough*). Her chemistry with Pine was the film's key strength; they worked so well in tandem that, quite honestly, I hope that they don't try to pair her off with another actor in future installments (and not just because I feel that defining Wonder Woman by her relationships is detrimental to the entire point of her). I will say that I called the twist the second that particular actor showed up, though, and I feel the rest of the squad were far too thinly developed, especially Chief (whose defining trait was . . . smoke signals?), which is a shame, because the actors were very good together.
Also, the WWI sequences here >>>>>>> Spielberg's in War Horse. Would love to see Patty Jenkins direct a big historical set piece.

I loved it aside from the last 30 mins. Then things started to get crazy and the shift really didn't match the rest of the film.
Still really enjoyed it. Gadot was excellent. No Man's Land felt like an iconic superhero moment.

No Man's Land may be the most inspiring scene in the genre. I don't remember the last time goodness prevailed over violence in such an epic fashion

I had issues with the movie, most of all the traitorous finale that feels as tacked on as anything I've seen this side of Magnificent Ambersons, and how I think they blow the costume reveal scene after its magical build up with this awful, awful background (which probably looked okay in 3D, but in 2D looked like something from Burton's Alice in Wonderland). I also think it's a little bit too reminiscent of The First Avenger to work especially well for anyone familiar with that movie, but it's all certainly a gigantic step up from Snyder's idiotic pair of movies, and the whole mid section of the movie built around Gadot and Pine is just fantabulous. The Ninotchka dynamic will never not work.

I was thinking to myself today if there was any superhero movie that had a love story as good as the one in Wonder Woman, and I'm coming up blank. I think it's largely due to the fact that most superhero love interests are thinly written cutouts who only exist to be the love interest, rather than an actual character in their own right. Hell, the only relationship that even approaches Wonder Woman/Steve's level of quality is if you watch The Dark Knight thinking that the Joker is in love with Batman.

So far the best DCEU film, although that is not a difficult task. I really expected the film to fail until the first reviews came in. And while it is not a perfect film, its a very good superhero drama with many great elements. Putting Patty Jenkins on the director chair was a brave and inspired choice and it paid off. She did a fantastic job creating the world around this iconic character. And not only when it comes to story telling Jenkins succeeded, also the action scenes were perfectly choreographed. Another reason why the film works so well is leading actress Gal Gadot who was already the best thing in Batman Vs. Superman and now again convinces with her charismatic performance that has a lot of depth to it. Chris Pine was also decent enough and an ideal choice for that role. I had loved to see more of the amazon mythology especially with Robin Wright's great character but the World War I setting also gave the film a good touch. And they did the implementation better than Marvel did with the first Captain America. The score was great, the cinematography and editing wonderful. I could have done with less slow motion moments but in general this is for DC to go the right direction with. 8/10
