--- NOTE --- This poll is about the nominating stage, as in: what would the BP lineup look like under the old 5-movie system. Just to avoid confusion.
The 2015 results are in and can be seen above. The movie that caused the most doubts (not a lot of them, though) was Room. The one that got closest (but not that close) was The Martian.
And now for 2014!

Birdman, Boyhood, Budapest, Imitation, Theory.
Maybe Whiplash overtakes one of the latter two considering its tech success but I'm fairly confident in that five.

I think:
- American Sniper - Birdman - Boyhood - The Grand Budapest Hotel - The Imitation Game
I'm confident in the bottom four, and as far as American Sniper goes, it seems like a perfect example of a late but massive surge. I bet Eastwood missed that Director lineup by just a few votes.

Definitely Birdman, Boyhood and Budapest. Then a mix of American Sniper (despite Eastwood not getting nominated in the end, still performed extremely well with nominations and its boxoffice cannot be overlooked). Theory of Everything vs. Imitation Game, the latter had director but the former won actor. And Whiplash is also around with its semi-upset tech wins.
Guess I'll got American Sniper and Theory for the last two, but definitely a tough one.

American Sniper Birdman Boyhood The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game
Redmayne steamrolling the season made me think that The Theory of Everything might have been #5, but with someone like Stephen Hawking as a role I guess he never needed a BP nom.

I mean, it clearly lost a lot of steam as the season wore on, especially when it was clear Cumberbatch wasn't going to go the distance in Best Actor. Tyldum getting in for Director does make me think it's safer than Theory, but with that last-minute surge for Eastwood and the below-the-line support for Whiplash, who knows.

American Sniper Birdman Boyhood The Grand Budapest Hotel The Imitation Game
American Sniper had the zeitgeist and peaked at nominations. The Imitation Game had Weinstein, Director and Editing nods, and more below-the-line support than The Theory of Everything. Whiplash I think had passion but surged post-nominations when voters were trying to get through watching all the nominated movies - I seem to recall one of those voter surveys that showed it was one of the least watched films up for BP among voters at the nomination stage but can't find that atm.

I don't see any signs of steam-losing when I look at the nominations it got. And again, we're talking about the nominations stage here. Director (for a rather unshowy achievement which wasn't set in stone since Tyldum missed at the BAFTAs and the Globes), 2 acting nominations, editing, a couple of techs + the eventually winning screenplay = everything suggests a rock solid top five movie to me.

The fact that The Imitation Game WON screenplay over Ameircan Sniper and The Theory of Everything makes me think that it was likely 4th in the lineup after Birdman, Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

I feel like Grand Budapest Hotel wouldn't have made it in with only the traditional 5 slots. American Sniper or Theory of Everything could have easily beaten it. I feel like there would have been huge backlash for Selma missing out
