--- NOTE --- This poll is about the nominating stage, as in: what would the BP lineup look like under the old 5-movie system. Just to avoid confusion.
The 2016 lineup is done and can be seen above. Arrival and Hacksaw Ridge caused some doubts. Hidden Figures was the runner-up.
And now for 2015!

Director lineup, maybe Martian was 5, but seemed its momentum waned at just the right moment in general, meanwhile Room, represented by the director nom, boomed at the right time.

Methinks:
- The Big Short - Mad Max: Fury Road - The Martian - The Revenant - Spotlight
Feels a bit too genre-y with both Fury Road and The Martian here, plus the latter certainly didn't perform as well as it could've, missing Director and Editing... but I really feel that Room was more of a lone BD case (especially with it missing stuff like PGA and BAFTA BP) and Bridge of Spies doesn't quite feel top 5 to me. Don't feel Brooklyn as a top contender either so I have to default to The Martian here.

But it was also the actress frontrunner (I'll contend that Tremblay might've even been able to get into lead actor if they hadn't category frauded him, which I think was too severe for some voters). The director nom shows it was at its peak momentum wise, whereas the Martian was diminishing. Additionally, in the days of five you could miss both and still get nominated For Example: Letters From Iwo Jima, Munich, Ray, In The Bedroom and Gosford Park. Meanwhile Shrek was nominated for both PGA and BAFTA (this has nothing to do with our debate but I thought it was worth bringing up since I feel we all need to remember this fact daily.)

Yeah the director five, though I think Room and The Martian were close.

I've chosen the director 5, but honestly I think both Bridge of Spies and The Martian feel strong enough that they could have bumped Room in a close race.

What gives me pause is that Room wasn't able to get PGA in a 10-nominees scenario, unlike those other examples. It's done OK pre-nominations but not so incredibly as to indicate overwhelming passion that would've put it in the five, even with the directors branch giving it a surprise nomination. But hey, as I acknowledged, The Martian had its weaknesses too. A bit of a toughie, this year is. I've always wondered how close Shrek was to a BP nomination... I mean, it is life. And love.
