Oh shit....I know he's in the middle of trying to help Murphy get a well deserved Best Actor Oscar, but I wonder if actors like Christian Bale or Leonardo DiCaprio , whom he's worked with, might feel some type of way about him saying that, since they are the same age, generationally as Murphy.

I mean he's only collaborated more with Caine, so I wouldn't say anyone should be surprised he's such a big fan of his.

Cillian is amazing on Peaky Blinders. IMO it's the best lead TV performance in recent history, next to Gandolfini and Cranston. So it's not a crazy statement from Nolan. The only issue with Cillian is he does so much stuff that doesn't matter, neither the thing nor his performance in it. His talent level is undeniable, but for every Oppenheimer or The Wind that Shakes the Barley he's in like 8 utter mediocrities. Like that movie Anna; why do I remember the fashion model turned actress more than his villanous turn?

There's a difference with bringing the same guys back for a lot of supporting roles, than with being the lead. Bale carried 4 movies for Nolan. Murphy had a lot of smaller roles, but only one lead.

Kind of interesting.....inthat general way it always is but also like I always say - you can never really trust wat artists say about other artists or their own work..........there's always a bias.......or an agenda.......but it's a nice compliment ......no big deal

People who dedicate their lives to being the best at something tend to be highly competitive in nature and have significant egos. I think it was Bale' s ex personal assistant/publicist who revealed that Bale really did see DiCaprio as a rival and the mere mention of him could set him off. If you don't think guys like this are super-competitive behind the scenes, then you probably can't comprehend the type of personality who wants to be considered the very best at what they do. I do think someone like Bale in particular, might feel a certain way about Nolan singling out another actor like that over him, especially as he has carried 4 films for Nolan.

I don’t think Bale or Leo cares really, but if we really want to talk about betrayal, isn’t there a story about David O. Russell putting Nolan in a headlock and Bale still chose to work with him again?
If somebody did that to a buddy of mine, I wouldn’t be too pleased, even if I liked both guys.

I don't agree with this man on much, but if I were to disagree in this case, it wouldn't be by much.

I guess technically Bale has led 4 movies for Nolan, but I tend to think of TDK trilogy as just one long collaboration, so I consider it just 2 distinct occasions where he was chosen as the star or costar of a Nolan project. It would be cool to see them work together again though since it’s been over a decade...

Bale , based on what I've read about him, reminds me of Michael Jordan in The Last Dance. "And I took that personally"

I think he is leaning more towards Murphy and this comment of his supports that. These two will collaborate more in the near future and i don't think he and Bale are getting together for a movie anytime soon.

Apparently this was like 15 years ago when Nolan was drunk at a party. Yeah, but he repeated the story in front of an industry audience with Murphy present when he won the DGA award and pretty much said that he called it correct, even if he seemed like a rambling drunk when he first said it to Murphy. He's repeating it in public with Murphy present because he's acknowledging that he believes it to be true. Maybe he's conscious that Murphy may be in a tight race with Giamatti, so wanted to give him the boost. But whatever the reason, he meant people to believe that's what he thought about Murphy.

You could probably make a decent movie out of it.
