Both great actors getting appreciated this year. Who has impressed you more so far. Both are reliable, have gravitas and elevate their roles but I love Wright's range from Basquiat to Angels in America to The French Dispatch. He doesn't have a performance on the level of Sideways but I do prefer him to Giamatti overall

I like them both but I have told this story a billion times: Paul Giamatti stopped acting in a play I saw because he was mad at the cast and the director - and that cast was Pacino, Buscemi, John Goodman, Billy Crudup (and more)........I mean it was ridiculous - he wouldn't look at other actors, he spoke into the ground, he didn't hit his marks - he was an unprofessional joke, a big spoiled baby .... Now, that - that is out of the way I don't like most of his acclaimed work - Barney's Version - big deal, Win Win is overrated and one note, I think he's amateurish in John Adams (won every f'n award), think he's laughable in Cinderella Man (a bad Wallace Beery impression).......... but he's GREAT in American Splendor and Sideways and The Holdovers ......he's like a schlubby Kevin Spacey .........great in a narrow, and specific way.....which is fine.. * Jeffrey Wright is just a more simple great actor - he can play anything - he's a master of using his voice....I've seen him be great on stage....he can be quite menacing too which you wouldn't think - but he's great in Shaft....... Jeffrey Wright is in some ways in that "African American Actors" group with James Earl Jones and Denzel Washington ......now of course they are NOT "African American Actors" - they are just actors (or American Actors) but if you're doing that nonsense - he's in that esteemed group ..... Peoples Hernandez bitches

Love them both to the degree it's one of those where I think "Why pick between them when we're lucky enough to have both?" but Wright, the answer is Wright. Yes, he has a Tony and an Emmy, and finally an Oscar nomination, but I still feel like he's one of the most underrated actors working. This dude can do anything, and has been for like 30 years now. Who remembers him in Shaft?! Like, he was playing a complete stereotype, but that shit was seamless. I'm pretty sure that was the first thing I saw him in, and I couldn't believe it when I found out he wasn't just regularly like that. How about CUDDLYWHISKERS?!
