Ballots are coming in for the 1994 AMARAs, and we have two borderline cases that possibly need sorting out. Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction is going to make both lead and supporting lineups, but the screenplay for Heavenly Creatures is also looking to do the same. Both received Oscar nominations - Jackson in support, Heavenly Creatures in original - and I want to see how people vote in this before making a ruling. If you would like to vote in the 1994 AMARA nominations, the link is here: movie-awards-redux.freeforums.net/thread/25199/1994-amaras-nomination-thread-ballots

There are three leads in Pulp Fiction: Jackson, Travolta and Willis. They drive their respective thirds of the movie so thoroughly that I can't split the difference and call it a true ensemble piece. Jackson's lead, and he should win there, and allow both him and Landau to sweep the year as well they should.
Heavenly Creatures isn't officially based on True Story of a Crime That Shocked a Nation, but Jackson and Walsh did draw from it in addition to the newspaper depictions of the crime. I call it heavily researched but still an original screenplay.

So...I submitted Heavenly Creatures yesterday high on my list on Adapted. After seeing this post, I checked out its imdb page and everything that I use as a reference to determine its placement has it in original. Last I saw this film was in the late '90s and logged it as Adapted before imdb, Oscar Buzz and quality internet sleuthing were much of a thing (I was logging hand-printed lineups back in the day; thank dog times have changed!). So ultimately I'm fine with you not counting my points for Heavenly Creatures in Adapted Screenplay because I've now seen the light and personally would have it in Original. I like the seven I submitted in Original so I wouldn't bump any of those for HC.
