You know the drill: which actress do you prefer, which has the better filmography, etc.?

Kidman. Better actress, better movie star, better stage performer, better filmography.
I like Moore a lot, and argued for her over Pfieffer in their poll. But Kidman is a different kettle of fish. Kidman can basically do everything Moore can, but I think she also has more in her arsenal. Moore tends to do her best work in a narrower range, wheras it's hard to pigeonhole what version of Kidman is best. To Die For, Moulin Rouge, Birth, Dogville, Destroyer, The Northman, The Paperboy. The range is insane. For me, she may be the female GOAT.
Also, I do consider stagecraft when evaluating talent at their level. Kidman is a theatrical legend based on her two Olivier nominated performances in The Blue Room and Photograph 51. Moore famously gave one of the worst reviewed performances by a Hollywood star on their broadway debut in The Vertical Hour, and never went back onstage to try and redeem herself. So Kidman easily for stage as well.

JangoB - So, who did you pick? Pfft, I don't vote in my own polls. jk jk, Nic Nic for me. I like Jules just fine and actually her amazing work in May December has kind of rejuvenated my interest in her, but Nicky's still comfortably ahead. Birth, The Others, The Portrait of a Lady, BMX Bandits, Dogville, Moulin Rouge!, THE PAPERBOY. And we're both June 20 kids (different years, of course ). No contest!

I didn't even get to read pacinoyes ' response before it was deleted, y'all. I logged in, came back to it, and then it was gone. * Here you are, thanks Tyler - just to preserve my thoughts : - without the .gif - you can look it up from Bll1 if you like fellas / perverts - my point was that Moore is a far more imaginative and playful actress imo - "Huppert-like" I called her - and there are very few male or female actors who "play at acting" like Moore does .....it's very refreshing - unique - and results in moments of striking spontaneity and clarity It's extremely hard to guess how Moore will play a scene if you just read it on the page.........* I said about Kidman - that she is more like (maybe a btter?) Liz Taylor imo - known for things outside of acting to many people (husbands, fashion, AMC ad etc).......like Taylor Kidman was better earlier and became more pointlessly histrionic often ......... however she can still sometimes be special (BLL1, The Northman (an overrated film btw) * I really don't get Kidman's "great run" that people jizz over in the early 00s - those movies aren't that good, poor rather imo ( Dogville, Eyes Wide Shut) - she peaked for at Birth / To Die For* I think she sometimes gets credit for trash - the awful, and so is she in it - Destroyer .......and is sexualized by incels (often, sometimes not) who conflate her attractiveness with portrayals 3 years ago I said this below - that no on does sex on camera like Kidman or as often in weird ways actually ........it was true then and still somewhat is now with her upcoming roles too..............give or take Emma Stone nowadays: Mar 23 , 2021I mean relative to her sex highlight reel - sex on washing machine (The Paperboy), indifferent handjob to a scuzzy invalid (Destroyer) and wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too many others to mention - her violent sex against a wall is her true (but less convincing) Remy Lacroix moment........

Funny how hours ago I was just thinking about what a nice auteur game Kidman got (not that Moore hasn't)... and gosh their greatness suddenly looks so different. Kidman makes for more distinguished leads... Moore I like more as a supporting player. She feels more natural and fearless too (not saying Kidman doesn't give it her 100%)... aaai go with Moore who might've been SnUbBed for May December (ns all of the noms).

Funny how hours ago I was just thinking about what a nice auteur game Kidman got (not that Moore hasn't)... Moore's list is insane, really... I'd have to think she and Kidman are tied in this regard? Robert Altman Paul Thomas Anderson The Coen Bros. David Cronenberg Alfonso Cuarón Atom Egoyan Luca Guadagnino Todd Haynes James Ivory Neil Jordan Pablo Larraín Louis Malle Ridley Scott Steven Spielberg Gus Van Sant And soon... Pedro Almodóvar. She also has a Lynne Ramsay project in pre-production. And that's not even counting respected directors who probably wouldn't get the "auteur" label like: Lisa Cholodenko George Clooney Stephen Daldry Tom Ford Lasse Hallström Curtis Hanson Sebastián Lelio Fernando Meirelles Rebecca Miller Kimberly Peirce Julie Taymor Joe Wright Peter Yates

I know I've been hard on Moore lately with some critiques of her May December performance, but I'll still take her here. I just like her more often, especially in lead roles. I like a lot of Kidman's recent supporting turns (Lion, Boy Erased, Northman) but I think that's just because I find her acting style so mannered it's better in small doses. I guess I'd take Kidman for a basic movie star part but I don't care as much about that.
And it hasn't like Kidman hasn't fallen on her face as well. Big oof @ Being the Ricardos.

Hmm. I think Kidman is more consistently good, and that Moore has some of the lowest lows of any great actor or actress, but I also find her more effective in something like Boogie Nights than Kidman in maybe anything. Gun to my head? Moore.

Kidman has 5 Oscar nominations. When I think of all the arguable snubs or nominatable performances she has, she could comfortably be over 15 nominations. Maybe approaching 20. She could easily have merited nods (some as filler nods and some win competitive) for these roles:
The Portrait Of A Lady Eyes Wide Shut Dogville Birth The Others To Die For Stoker Margot At The Wedding Paddington The Beguiled Boy Erased The Northman The Paperboy The Killing Of A Sacred Deer Bombshell
And all these characters/performances are completely different. Insane talent.

Kidman has 5 Oscar nominations. As I mentioned in the thread announcing Moore in the new Almodóvar film, they're similar in that they've been nominated as often as they've been ignored. I do think they're taken for granted... maybe because they both work so often? I'm really not sure. In any case, it reminds me of Kidman's Bewitched co-star, Shirley MacLaine. Looking at her filmography and her awards haul elsewhere, 5 nominations seems curiously low. Edit: Here's a similar list of Moore's acclaimed performances that were overlooked come Oscar nominations morning: Short Cuts Vanya on 42nd Street Safe The Myth of Fingerprints The Big Lebowski Cookie's Fortune An Ideal Husband Magnolia A Map of the World The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio Children of Men Savage Grace A Single Man The Kids Are All Right Maps to the Stars Gloria Bell May December

Don't forget Chloe. More of a Seyfried showcase, but man if Moore isn't strong in it. I think Moore might be the most bipolar actor of all time, in terms of being great here and then there entirely losing sense of knowing how to act.

Would have included Game Change too if we're not talking about Oscar

It’s already been Moore for a long time, and the news of her starring in Pedro Almdovar’s next film has quelled any doubt of that. She’s worked with more, and with greater auteurs (Altman, Cuaron, Haynes, Coen bro’s, Spielberg, etc.) She has a much better filmography, topped by yet another masterpiece last year (May December). She has MUCH more range, especially as of late. Her oscar nominations are all richly deserved, and represent her talent perfectly. She has won all the major film festival actress awards and her list of critics wins is astonishing (compared to the other who has practically nothing, and never came close to any of the big 3). Frankly, this thread shouldn’t even exist. Thankfully, not everyone here is blinded by stanning and Julianne is rightfully winning quite easily.

Julianne Moore has beaten Kidman and Binoche - atm anyway ..........in back to back polls.......hmmmm........slightly surprised ......but not disappointed..........this boards Moore love may go through the roof if that Almodóvar delivers opposite Swinton and Mary & George miniseries is good Possibly the older actress with the highest "ahead of the curve" upside atm

Julianne Moore I'm thinking the only actress who might beat her in a poll at this point is Cate Blanchett?

She's more consistent even when she's slumming. Moore is too alienated from her gifts. At any given moment she can slide into 19-60% of Cotillard's TDKR death scene.
