So Sandra Hüller is having quite the year with the two films. I have yet to see either - will be able to see Anatomy of a Fall this weekend, but unfortunately, no Zone of Interest.
So if you've seen both films, I'd like you to vote for:
1) The greater one 2) The greater Sandra Hüller performance

PQC, without having seen Zone of Interest, I can guarantee you that Zone of Interest is the better movie.

Haven't seen Zone of Interest but Anatomy of a Fall is quite overrated movie with a very great Hüller at the service of a pretty banal script .....I found it quite obvious and less interesting as it went along whch isn't good for a "mystery" ......I mean there's no way that cracks my top 10 and my top 10 is filled with movies I don't even like much

We'll all gladly return to this poll in a couple of months when we actually watch The Zone of Interest

I haven't seen Anatomy of a Fall yet, but I suspect I'll like it more than The Zone of Interest. And I've already seen The Zone of Interest (it was released last week in my country).

I'll let you know after I see The Zone of Interest on Thursday night. Edit: PromNightCarrie - I definitely prefer The Zone of Interest as a film, but I don't think there's any point in comparing the performances. Anatomy of a Fall is designed as an acting showcase; while all of the actors in The Zone of Interest are good, they are only working to serve Glazer's lithe auteur vision.

Where would you rank it among Glazer's films? 1. Under the Skin 2. Birth -- significant gap -- 3. The Zone of Interest Not Seen: Sexy Beast

Sandra Hüller is really excellent in both films - definitely two of the best performances of the year. I've otherwise only seen her in Toni Erdmann, where she is again tremendous. What an actress!
While I'd give the edge to her powerhouse turn in Anatomy of a Fall, I would also say that without her there is actually not too much to recommend about that film. It's far from bad, but it's extremely bloated and hinges on some convoluted and unbelievable narrative turns. The Zone of Interest, on the other hand, is tight and razor sharp. Another haunting piece from Glazer. It's definitely the superior film.

Bumping this because, poll aside, I am fanning out over Sandra Huller right now. What an actress! I need more. I'm about see that movie she made nearly 20 years ago called Requiem where she plays a character based on Anneliese Michel (a story I studied for a project ). Anyone else familiar enough with this newly discovered (by me) German treasure to recommend me more with her?

Zone for film, Anatomy for performance. I agree that while Zone is the better film, it's not really an actor's film and is much more a showcase for Glazer.

PQC, without having seen Zone of Interest, I can guarantee you that Zone of Interest is the better movie. I was right... Performance is close though. She was very good in Anatomy of a Fall, but her work in Zone of Interest might be the great comic performance of the age. Those two scenes, the one where she doesn't want to move and then the breakfast scene after after her mother leaves. Top-tier lolz. PromNightCarrie have you seen Toni Erdmann?? If not, where were you when that came out?! Most of her best stuff I can recall (Requiem is maybe the exception) is in not such good stuff, and the better movies she is not in as much.

Where was I when Toni Erdmann came out in 2016? Let's see... I was abducted by aliens during that time, ibbi. I will be seeing it, though. Currently obsessed with her. Or let's just say, presently, she is to me what Julianne Moore is for TylerDeneuve.

Having just seen The Zone of Interest, they are not even in the same stratosphere. The Zone of Interest is the vastly superior film, and I don't even dislike Anatomy of a Fall.
In terms of the better Hueller performance, I actually still lean The Zone of Interest. Even though she isn't the focus of the camera at all, I find her incredibly vapid, cunty, and psychopathic. The scene where she tells the Jewish maid that her husband could spread her ashes is chilling to the bone. She's really good in Anatomy too though and the film successfully hangs on her and Graner's delivery.
