Leonie Benesch in The Teacher's Lounge. Have a feeling it's not going to get a foreign film nod and she's certainly not getting a BA nod so it could end up kind of getting lost to time even though it's like a top 3-5 performance of the year.
Agree with Kirby in Napoleon too.

Thomasin McKenzie, Anne Hathaway and Marin Ireland in the underrated but weak ending noir Eileen Kyle Gallner who practically jumps off the screen in C-level exploitation - The Passenger - maybe THE best male performance of the year (not kidding) Leslie Uggams underrated in the overrated - good not great piece of cultural satire doubling as false propaganda with not enough bite American Fiction Laure Calamy in the Chabrolesque (sorta) Origin of Evil (2022/2023) Lily McInerny - Unforgettable .............in Palm Trees and Power Lines (2022/2023)

Pretty much everyone outside of the 'big 5' in Oppenheimer. I wish Damon had a secured spot for BSA though. Don't ask me over who. *plus YES to Williams for Showing Up. people who pretend it's not a 2023 film are wrong.

Marin Ireland as a mad scientist morgue technician trying to reanimate dead bodies in Birth/Rebirth. Creepy and dryly humorous in her deadpan disinterest in everyone and everything not related to her work, it's a sensational performance in a great spooky movie I hope finds a bigger audience down the line. as far as the awards circuit goes, I was really bummed Mia Goth couldn't land even a Gotham nod let alone an ISA for Infinity Pool. She's every bit as good as she was in Pearl and deliciously unhinged. one last one: although Teyana Taylor received the bulk of the praise for A Thousand and One (rightfully so, she's tour de force), Will Catlett gives a heartbreaking and soulful performance that's worth singling out too.
