This is perhaps my favorite historical era, and that's thanks in large part to the two films dueling for the title of my favorite film set here: Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon (1975) and Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette (2006). Other goodies: Amadeus (Miloš Forman); Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee); Dangerous Liaisons (Stephen Frears); The Favourite (Yorgos Lanthimos); Pride & Prejudice (Joe Wright); and Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton). What's your choice?

How about the Jane Austen film adaptations, guys? I already named Wright's Pride & Prejudice, but there's also...
Sense and Sensibility (Ang Lee) Emma (Douglas McGrath) Love & Friendship (Whit Stillman)
Edit: Oh, and there's also Nicholas Hytner's The Madness of King George - do you like that film?

I thought you might pick Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Yet another goodie I should have mentioned in my OP.

Amadeus and The Favourite And apparently I really need to see DantonWait - Pitts........ you started a thread once asking to see Depardieu specific perfomances / recommendations - and Danton showed up the most there I'm sure (?)......... and Danton won our best peformance of the year poll too (1983: Gérard Depardieu, Danton (7/25)) - and that was a year that included Scarface, Tender Mercies and Silkwood etc .......... and he has like 15 (more than that really tbh) essential performances that had to be recommendations by someone (ok, um me - but still)........... Thank God this "18th century" thread came along because you need a lot of convincing buddy

Danton (1983) by Wajda - about the Terror Have you ever seen Rohmer’s ‘The Lady and the Duke’? I’d recommend, especially for this time period!

One that's definitely on my watchlist... Patrice Leconte's Ridicule (1996). Fanny Ardant is always the most delicious fun! Have any of you guys seen this one?
