In like anything. I'm watching L.A. Story and haven't even smirked yet. I don't get it. I'm a 90s kid and this dude has literally made no impression.

I'm just saying I find his reputation weird. You put on any Beverly Hills Cop and everyone gets the appeal of Eddie Murphy (100 other things would accomplish the same). This dude, it's like panning for gold or something. "Oh he's funny in The Jerk" "Oh, contemporary mores don't align with his style" etc. Just post a clip of this motherfucker being funny so I don't feel like I'm being gaslit! I don't even like Chevy Chase and sort of understand his appeal.

LA Story is Martin more in his dramedy stage, where he wasn't really going for hard laughs like in a lot of his earlier work. Roxanne, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Man With Two Brains, Little Shop Of Horrors, Three Amigos, Planes Trains And Automobiles is Martin at his funniest, and at his peak, he was probably only second to Eddie Murphy as a comedic film actor ( though John Candy was up there as well).

This was the last Eddie Murphy movie I laughed hard at (or was it Life? Both the same year). Yeah Eddie had a great 1999 with Bowfinger and Life with Martin Lawrence in the same year. He’s had a rough 21st century for sure doing several kids movies, but I thought Eddie was fantastic in Dolemite is My Name. But yeah I’m with you, Steve is a comedy legend for sure to me.

Steve Martin is one of my living legends. Few actors can pull off that tennis scene in Roxanne like he can.
