7. It's overlong but funnily enough, the part that works best for me is probably the section of the film you could most easily excise: the woodland scenes after Beau has escaped from Amy Ryan and Nathan Lane's house. But while I do think it is comfortably the weakest of Aster's trinity, it has stuck with me more than most movies this year and I am more positive on it in retrospect than I was at the time. Phoenix is great, LuPone is really great, and it's uncomfortably hilarious in unexpected ways.

It began fine and became more annoying as it went along (the closure is unforgettable though, very The Wall-y) but strangely, yeah, it has stuck with me in a way other (even better) films of the year have not... A misfire, but as long as misfires look like this... keep them coming. 6/10.

4? Maybe between 4 and 5....... No director has been this misanthropic since Todd Solondz and more palpably unpleasant and misguided since the younger Gaspar Noe who has since grown (and grown up)...... Not merely a therapy session gone horribly wrong - it also is 1 /2 of THE worst year a recent "great" actor has had in quite some time......if Denzel Washington is "the king" (he's most certainly not, birthday wishes aside you asshat), if PTA's "assignment" is to write something for 69 year old Denzel Washington (it certainly is not, birthday wishes aside), then Joaquin Phoenix prior to 2023 was the King of Kings and his assignment was to just act like someone identifiable.........nope.......C'Mon, C'Mon was a step forward..........this was 2 steps back

I would've liked it more I think, if Aster didn't hate his protagonist (himself?) this fucking much I wonder what else is out there for him to explore after this moment. Thoughts on his previous two?

Slight thumbs up for his first.......which is 2 different movies that don't mesh........the first half is fascinating, the 2nd half is somewhat laughable Thumbs down for his 2nd which again starts great but doesn't go anywhere that genre hasn't already exhausted He was iffy before Beau is Afraid.......now he may insufferable........ Side note : I'm assuming you don't mean The Strange Thing About The Johnsons which you know was a therapy session all by itself and could have been easily been made by.........um..........Todd Solondz

Side note: I've thought a lot about what this movie would've been like with Adam Sandler as the lead.

If Philip Seymour Hoffman had played a screaming phallus in Punch Drunk Love, that would've been the greatest movie ever made.
