It seems to me we never mention the worst films of the year. Let's try that once.
These are my worst films of the year 2023:
1. The Meg 2: The Trench 2. Insidious 5 3. Evil Dead Rise 4. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania 5. Murder Mystery 2 6. The Flash 7. Fast X 8. Shazam: Fury of the Gods 9. The Nun 2 10. The Marvels
What's yours?

I don't have 10 or anything but my worst "big film" experience was Leave The World Behind which was submental, slightly racist, poorly acted imo - by Oscar winners no less (Roberts & Ali) - a big nothing of a movie that pretends to have its finger on the pulse of America but really has its fingers up its own ass while it jerks off with how self-impressed it is.....about people I don't know, doubt exist and I hope I never meet tbh...... I didn't hate it the way I've hated some recent big movies in he MAR era - Women Talking, Antebellum, The Perfection, but I hated it a good bit........... it also flat out hates 1/2 of the country - the Conservative half (naturally) ........and that must have been a great pacinoyes post (are there any other kind?) because the moderators locked that thread (just kidding, I think because I didn't start a new thread and people were reviewing it in the old one - but it blows in any thread anyway tbh) It was scary alright but not in the way they thought...........

Bottoms is genuinely one of the worst films I've ever seen, of any year...

I've only seen two absolutely dreadful movies this year, so rather than list a bottom ten, I'll just shine a lot on these two.
Bad Things: The title says it all, but it's pretty much a cut-rate Shining knockoff that absolutely squanders the great Gayle Rankin, who is extremely committed in portraying a character that makes absolutely no sense at all. It really frustrates me to see Rankin being consistently wasted in movies that don't deserve her (i.e. this and Men), but this movie is particularly nonsensical.
65. How do you fuck up a premise that is Adam Driver fighting dinosaurs this badly? How do you make it this boring?

10. The Flash - 4/10: Theres some stuff going on here, the opening bit with the babies (while ugly to look at) was really fun and absurd, all the Batman and 3rd Act nonsense is just offensively lazy, idk how any DC blowhard could reasonably defend it. 9. Ant-Man 3 - 4/10: The fun part about Ant Man is that hes really small and using small stuff, making them big to fight other big stuff. But now everything is small, so now nothing feels small, and all the charm is gone. And everything else is just painfully dull. 8. Shazam! Fury of the Gods - 4/10: Also just painfully dull. Zachary Levi loves thinking hes charming and charismatic, but I cant fucking stand him 7. The Meg 2 The Trench - 3/10: Howd you make the Big Shark Big Statham movie so boring? 6. Paint - 3/10: I dont blame anyone for having never heard of this one, but its easily the one of the worst. A mid SNL skit extended to 90 minutes, and barely anything is funny 5. The Nun II - 3/10: More boring garbage, dont know why The Conjuring Universe is still going on like this 4. The Exorcist: Believer - 3/10: Probably because of the Patriarchy 3. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey - 2/10: Normally id say "A for Effort" for being the first to use the open copyright, but actual no effort was used 2. Hypnotic - 2/10: Someone had Robert Rodriguez at gunpoint this is a different level of bad over here 1. Fear - 1/10: Nothing this year instilled so much hatred in me

Most overrated...
Asteroid City - Once upon a time in the Wes… a world that isn’t a world but a costume party. On the menu: maudlin necco wafers. It all goes down like flat soda. A deserted movie. (Arguably worth the trouble for what we got out of it: a fascinating compilation book of the movie’s inspirations Do Not Detonate.)
Oppenheimer - Lotta cranked up noise can’t camouflage that 2/3s of the movie is a shrug. Why should I care about Opp keeping his hall pass? Why should I care about Downey Jr’s airless villainy? Nolan can be clever and he’s been better at the triangulate structure but here three equals emcee scared. Cillian is intense but too extraterrestrial to believe he’s led anything so much as Los Alamos or, um, a romance. David Krumholtz and Matt Damon feel like they’ve walked these halls, suffering lackluster lunches, they impart smarts and reluctant loyalty. That’s what I’m talkin about. 3-4 strong scenes ain’t enough; much legal ado...; half interesting as a satire of the world's smartest men also being the most clueless.
Most worst...
Barbie & You People - Two apology tours that become insufferable and worse: unfunny.
Accused - Bad student film feel, director’s followup to the very good Boiling Point, another real time thriller-ish piece, this all feels forced and false with a parody level of paranoid racism told mostly thru Tweets and running around in complete darkness. The director is so short of ideas he kills a cute dog for no reason!

65 was easily the worst. I remember next to nothing from Final Summer, so that might be a contender. Both Slotherhouse and Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey could have been stupid fun, but instead were boring and forgettable.

Actively seeking bad movies (badly-received, look like shit) makes no sense to me, and I just checked to find out that I haven't watched a thing this year (2023 or otherwise) I'd call "bad"... there were disappointing ones, but mostly I've swum in the sea of 6s and 7s.

not horrible just aggressively mid (some of these will exit the bottom 10 as I watch more) 10. The Creator (derivative and horribly acted) 09. The Last Voyage of the Demeter (boring and barely visible) 08. Rye Lane (irritating) 07. Renfield (good idea flushed down the toilet with a terrible script)
ok now they get bad 06. Foe (unwatchably dull) 05. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (in the words of Marty Scorsese: not cinema) 04. The Little Mermaid (awful) 03. Kandahar (pointless) 02. Golda (gross)
annnnnd for #1 congrats to... 01. Indiana Jones and Dial of Destiny. I expected this to be a lame retread of Indy's past glory and a reminder of how past its prime the franchise has become but this was so much worse than I was expecting. A grueling viewing experience with goofy action pieces, cringey jokes and a meaningless plot that fully goes off the rails in the third act and enters the realm of self-parody. The last 30 minutes really cemented this as the worst movie of 2023 for me, and I don't go out of my way (usually) to watch garbage so I expect this will remain in that bottom spot.

guys. dudes. sirs. pleeeease, calling Bottoms & Barbie the worst films of the year is just ridiculous and reeks of dishonesty. like, you don't like funny in movies? it's bc of all the women involved in this, on camera and behind, right that made you dislike it so much, init? it's bc you never get the female humour, let alone her thinking and their overall uplifting, genuinely life-and art affirming message that their movies often radiate and spread among the viewers. that made so many women in the audience so happy, all around the world, bc it made us feel like we were bonding over this movie, and yet you sit there posting ridiculous shite like that bc you can't stop hating on it, bc it's too pink the vibes were too feminine and womanly. it's everything you always hated in movies coming together in these two movies, that mean sooo much to us. but you just cant see it nor acknowledge it. how very toxic redpilled neckbeard edgelord of you. sorry for being so blunt, but the hate for movies like Barbie and Bottoms has always been coming from men who felt weirdly attacked by all the sheer amount of femininine issues and energies and styles and messages crushing down on their poor fragile male egos, when they all knew from day one that this will be very pink and girlie and gay. they couldnt stay clear and still watched even with all these red flags and only to get all butthurt when they got it all wrong. seriously, fuck you. You are a dipshit. i don't care who you are, you say ^^that, you are a fucking dipshit. i haven't written a huge amount about how disappointing Oppenheimer was to me either, bc i don't need to and don't feel like it. Barbie is a perfect movie targeted at female audience which made so many of us feel so good and thoroughly entertained and even understood. Greta Gerwig is the new mistress of cinema while Bottoms by Emma Seligmann is just brilliant satire on misguided modern feminism and the burdens of today's patriarchy and absolutely relevant and hilariously funny that had me in stitches. so, shut the fuck up, idiot. there's a reason why communities like this one ALWAYS end up being 100% sausagefests with only the dudes talking about and sharing the things we all love same way, but we get tired of all the negativity and hate that men just can't stop loving spreading all over the community and feel weird satisfaction and pride in doing so, while female posters usually are enjoying spreading postivity and love for the things we enjoy, men can't stop being cynical pricks, thinking that's a character trait and they're entitled to spread negativity and being generally a grumpy fucl when it's actually quite toxic for communities that want to be more inclusive. neckbeardism really has aged awfully, thank god. being edgelord doomer got soooo old and lame and boring for he most part. we just stop caring at some point cuz having to read all yer rants is just trite, a waste of time and space, there is nothing that we can take out of it negativity and cynicism. what's the point in slamming and trashing movies anyway other than boosting your own ego? its not encouraging and motivating at all for anyone, quite the opposite. it's off putting and turns everyone off. i've witnessed and observed this, like in every single online community discussing movies i've been a part of literally everywhere, be it on old imdb, implying & Patrician facebook groups, on several imdb offshoot forums, so it's definitely not just you guys here. i barely even know you being somehwat new here, i already get the underlying vibes, and the lack of female participation, and threads like this one which invites hateful posts like the ones above i'm criticising, are really not helping the community here flourish and grow, but maybe you dont even want anything to change around here and think i'm too invested in this. i'm definitely baked yo it's making me feel all brave now lol but also don't forget i'm looking at this community with rather fresh and unspoiled eyes, so all of this is probably gonn be like, whatever in the end. so whatevs lmao but lol i may stop coming here one day myself for reasons above, and it is what it is. but pleaassse sirs. guys. i'm begging you movie bros, let us enjoy things rather than delve on hating things, for a start, you can hate whatever you like, that's not the point. i hate random stuff myself and can't help it either, but i don't go around and shove it into everyone's face how much i hated this and that and why and who else up? "hater's unite" and that i will never change my mind yet keep challenging my peers to try to bc.... uh no i just dnnt do it bc frankly, no one actually gives a shit. aight? bappy bew bear!

I watched Bottoms because of how much I liked Shiva Baby...

guys. dudes. sirs. pleeeease, calling Bottoms & Barbie the worst films of the year is just ridiculous o happy, all around the world, bc it made us feel like we were bonding over this movie, and yet you sit there posting ridiculous shite blaaaaaaah blech bluar bappy bew bear! Not my problem with either movie. I just thought their screenplays absolutely sucked. Little Women is my favorite film of 2019 and one of my favorite films of the past decade. Marie Antoinette is one of my favorite films of all time. Acting like people who despise the laziness of Barbie And Bottoms are misogynists is funnier than either movie. I watched Bottoms because of how much I liked Shiva Baby... ok fair enough. as i said i don't know anyone here very well, apart from Tommen, Buscemi, Archie, Drish and who else is left from the old GoT guard muahaha and will accept you making fair points. i just got so trigGggGggered over the year ever since Barbie came out, but that didnt actually happen here. but on X/Twitter, the biggest shithole this side of the internet. i dont think i even followed discussions about Barbie here, as i# "re-discovered" this board later that year when i started posting semi-regularly.- i was just ranting away at the state of things and typing all that shit out rather accidenally even felt therapeutic and like my final words on the ridiculous male hysteria that Barbie caused up and down the internetland and social media spheres especially among the MRMs and other meninist, neo-con and alt-rights movements. lmao so no hard feelings, i hope. same applies to everyone else who is feeling attacked. i still stand by everything i gushed out but would rather put it into a broader perspective now. nothing is meant personally, please dont take it that way, ya goddamn haters.
