Sound off, folks!
I think (in order of likelihood):
1. Oppenheimer 2. Maestro 3. The Zone of Interest 4. Ferrari 5. The Killer
A tough one beyond the top 2 as I can see all sorts of combinations happening here. KOTFM can get in as the epic period BP contender (although I found the work to be a bit flawed with dialogue sometimes sounding like the actors had live mics or something... I remember a similar thing with Silence actually, and even some complaints about that), Barbie can get in as part of its nomination sweep, The Creator can get in being a big sci-fi blockbuster, Napoleon can get in for the battle stuff, MI can get in for the action if they decide to finally embrace the franchise. Lots of variations. But I settled on the ones I did because:
- Oppy: obvious - Maestro: obvious - The Zone of Interest: apparently the sound design is a major reason for the movie's effectiveness - Ferrari: as I understand it, there aren't that many racing sequences in it but (if I'm not mistaken) they'll be voting based on 10-minute reels so putting all the noisiest stuff in one tight package should be enough for its chances here - The Killer: it's very showy + this branch likes Ren Klyce & Fincher... I just hope the movie's not too small of a deal for them

Ferrari Maestro Oppenheimer Napoleon The Zone of Interest
I really do think people are underrating Napoleon's chances here at a nomination. It's the big war film of the season, and for all of the criticism you can lob at the movie, its technicals are not among them.

Ferrari Killers of the Flower Moon Maestro Oppenheimer The Zone of Interest
I’m really tempted to replace Killers with Napoleon, but I think they usually default to Best Picture contenders here.

Barbie - Possible as Musical/Best Picture if they're going all in, as it hits the sort of "musical" type in the category. The Creator - Probably not. A tighter squeeze with only one category, theoretically can get in because it is the type of film for this category, but being a flop make me second guess. Ferrari - Very likely because Brummmmmmmm brummmm brummmmmmmm Maestro - Possible as Musical/Best Picture, but I could see Barbie rather than this on the day. Or both. The Killer - Possible and SHOULD get in, but I think with the single category the odds are against since it will be pushed out by best picture contenders. The Killers of the Flower Moon - Very likely akin to Belfast and The Power of the Dog. More so on its best picture, with enough sound, than really the sound. Mission Impossible - Surprisingly the series has never gotten in. So no reason to think that will change now with fewer spots. Napoleon - Usually if they pass on Scott, they pass all the way. Oppenheimer - Slam dunk, a lot of big sound moments, and best picture frontrunner status. Zone of Interest - Not sure. A lot of specific praise, but...when have they gone for "avantgarde" sound design?
